EVERY KID HEALTHY WEEK 4/25-4/29!
Message from the Creating Healthy Schools & Communities WSBOCES-SSSC

Wyandanch School District has made huge strides in promoting and enhancing health among its students over the last few years. The district is partnering with Western Suffolk BOCES on the recently awarded Creating Healthy Schools and Communities (CHSC) grant and building on successes from work under the previous Healthy Schools NY grant. CHSC is a five year initiative that addresses obesity and chronic disease prevention by creating school and community environments that foster health. The district hopes to sustain its accomplishments and implement more innovative and evidence-based programs to improve access to nourishing foods and physical activity among the student body. All school events scheduled are detailed here and are taking place in different buildings in the Wyandanch School District during Every Kid Healthy Week, April 25-29. 2016!

The schools' participation in and acknowledgement of Every Kid Healthy Week (EKHW) sends a powerful message to scholars, staff, families and the community. Learn More.

PREPARING FOR ASTHMA AWARENESS MONTH IN MAY
Partner Highlight: Asthma Coalition of Long Island

Each May, thousands of organizations join together for Asthma Awareness Month to increase public awareness of the asthma epidemic and to take action to get asthma under control in communities across the nation. Asthma affects more than 25 million people of all ages and races. And, though asthma is widespread, public awareness of common asthma triggers and effective asthma management strategies remains limited. Click here for the full EPA Asthma Awareness Month Event Planning Kit.

Here are a few of the events and activities that are in the works from our partners at the Asthma Coalition of Long Island (ACLI): Special Edition E-newsletter, Community Family Asthma Event, Parent Workshops, Staff development sessions. Subscribe to the ACLI eNewsletter for more details and updates!

If you are planning an event for patients and families at your location, ACLI can help by providing educational materials, bubbles, crayons, coloring books and Trigger Bingo, please contact Cynthia Rosen via email and share your plans!
