Martina Rossetti is a marketing major from Rome, Italy.

"My favorite DSU memory is the Swim Conference Championship from my freshman year. We finished in second place, but it was the first time I felt like part of a family in the U.S.! It was fun and moving to see our seniors finish their last swim meet."

International Faculty Spotlight:

Prof. Sylma Ferreira


Prof. Sylma Samuel Ferreira (center) is an instructor of Spanish and English as a Second Language in the Division of Languages and Literature. She is originally from Dominica.


The Mississippi Board of Trustees of the State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) recognized her as Delta State's 2023 Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Award recipient.

International Alumni Spotlight: Myriam Larsen '22


Myriam Larsen graduated from Delta State in May 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Originally from Haiti, she is currently in a doctoral program for clinical psychology at Azusa Pacific University in California.


"My years at Delta State were transformative and contributed to who I am today. I would say the people at Delta State were the most impactful. The psychology department's faculty was invaluable in helping get me to graduate school in the first place."

DSU's Japan Outreach Initiative Begins 2nd Year

CLEVELAND, Miss. - Mizuki Umebara, Delta State University's Japan Outreach Initiative (JOI) Coordinator, was selected by JOI to go to their annual summer training as a presenter for the new JOI Coordinators and Supervisors in Houston, Texas, earlier this month. She spent several days with the Year 21 JOI coordinators and supervisors.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Delta State University men's soccer player Arturo Riestra was named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday, Sept. 12. Riestra hails from Andorra la Vella, Andorra.

International Coffee Hour Kicks Off the Semester


International Coffee Hour is a great way for DSU's international students to meet campus and community members.


Local churches, student organizations, and businesses sponsor this event three times per semester.


The coffee hour includes free coffee and pastries for all that come to support and meet our students!


September's International Coffee Hour was sponsored by DSU's Student Government Association and International Student Association.

2nd Annual International Moon Festival a Success


Delta State University held its second annual International Moon Festival on Thursday, September 28, 2023. The Office of Student Affairs, International Student Services Office, Wiley Planetarium, Japan Outreach Initiative (JOI), and Mississippi Delta Chinese Heritage Museum sponsored the event.


The event celebrated Zhōngqiū Jié (Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival), Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) and Otsukimi (Japanese Moon Viewing).


Over 100 campus and community members enjoyed a special planetarium talk by Dr. Maria Weber, food like mochi, moon cakes, and songpyeon, and activities such as making rabbit origami and prayer sheets.


Special thanks to Dr. Jung-Won Shin, Dr. Kumiko Shimizu, Prof. Emily Jones, Dr. Maria Weber, JOI Coordinator Mizuki Umebara, and DSU graduate student Vollorie Zhu for their time and expertise.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AT DELTA STATE

Delta State University has taken delivery of two out of five new Cirrus TRAC 20 aircraft for the Commercial Aviation Department, signaling a major step forward in the program’s advancement.


The new planes are state-of-the-art, technologically advanced aircraft that will allow students to receive top-notch training and prepare them for successful careers in the aviation industry.


The aircraft were paid for with an appropriation from the Mississippi legislature.

For the 2nd consecutive year, Delta State University’s Entertainment Industry Studies program has been named among Billboard magazine’s Top Music Business Schools for 2023.


Delta State’s Entertainment Industry Studies program offers students a comprehensive and dynamic education in the technological, creative, and business aspects of the entertainment industry through the Bachelor of Science in Entertainment Industry Studies degree.

The undergraduate teacher preparation program at Delta State University has been recognized by the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) for its rigorous preparation of future teachers in how to teach reading, earning an “A” grade in NCTQ’s new report, Teacher Prep Review: Strengthening Elementary Reading Instruction.


The program is among just 23% nationwide to earn an “A” from NCTQ for meeting standards set by literacy experts for coverage of the most effective methods of reading instruction—often called the “science of reading.”
