Welcome to the June 2026 DSpace Community newsletter! The last three months have been packed with exciting activities and we are happy to share updates with the community. 


In this newsletter, you will learn about a new major DSpace release, find out about new DSpace committers, get progress updates on the work of merging DSpace-CRIS into DSpace, and hear news from our Registered Service Providers.

TECHNICAL UPDATES

DSpace 10.0


We are pleased to announce the release of DSpace 10.0! Released on June 1, 2026, DSpace 10.0 is the first of two releases that merge DSpace-CRIS into DSpace. It provides new features, performance improvements, and bug fixes to the DSpace platform. 


Did you know?

DSpace 10.0 had over 350k lines of code changed. We are also proud to report that this is the first major release in the history of DSpace with over 100 unique individual code contributors! Additionally, over 40 distinct individuals contributed by reviewing or testing code, and 26 unique individuals participated in this year's Testathon. We are grateful to the community for the contributions to this release.

Maintenance Releases


In addition to the release of DSpace 10.0, three maintenance releases were released on June 1, 2026: DSpace 7.6.7, 8.4, and 9.3. They contain security fixes, performance enhancements, accessibility improvements, and bug fixes. No new features are provided in the maintenance releases. Many thanks to the community for the contributions to these releases.

DSpace 11.0


DSpace 11.0, planned to be released in late May or early June of 2027, will be the second and final stage in the merger of DSpace-CRIS into DSpace. The DSpace and DSpace-CRIS Merger Management Team has begun discussing outlining a timeline to port the remaining features from DSpace-CRIS into DSpace. Updates will be shared with the community in due time.

COMMUNITY UPDATES

New Committers

We are excited to announce the addition of three new members to the DSpace committers group: Francesco Molinaro, Vincenzo Mecca, and Stefano Maffei, all from 4Science. Please join us in welcoming Francesco, Vincenzo, and Stefano!

Community Events


The Big Migration Conference


More than 100 repository professionals from over 20 countries came together on May 12 and 13, 2026, in Warsaw, Poland, for two days of discussions, knowledge sharing, and community building around DSpace and the future of open research infrastructures. One of the highlights of the event was the DSpace National User Groups Roundtable, where coordinators from several national communities met in person to exchange experiences, discuss different governance and engagement models, and reflect on the unique challenges and opportunities within their respective countries.



Open Repositories 2026


As usual, DSpace was heavily represented at this year’s Open Repositories conference, held fully online from June 8-11. 2026. In case you missed it, recordings of the conference program will be made available on the OR Zenodo repository by mid-July. Stay tuned to watch your favorite DSpace presentations from this year’s Open Repositories!

DSpace Community Advisory Team (DCAT)


The DSpace Community Advisory Team holds monthly open Zoom meetings for repository managers, developers and users of DSpace.


DSpace Developers Meeting


DSpace Committers and Community Developers hold a weekly meeting every Thursday. Anyone is welcome to attend. Topics may include release planning, reviewing upcoming code changes, and other technical discussions.



A Coffee with Holger: Meet-Up with the DSpace Program Coordinator


Do you have questions about the DSpace Community? Do you wonder how to get involved? Are you interested in becoming a DSpace member, but are not sure where to start? Join us for the monthly virtual DSpace Coffee Hour!


This event series, which takes place on every 3rd Tuesday of the month, provides an informal opportunity to ask questions, discuss ideas and suggestions, connect with other members in the DSpace Community, or just say "Hi" and introduce yourself.

DSpace Deep Dive Webinar Series


Would you like to share your insights with the DSpace community? Whether you would like to highlight a specific DSpace feature, present on workarounds or creative solutions, share a migration story, or show how your repository deals with AI bot attacks – any topic relevant to the DSpace community is welcome.
