Spring Forward
Success is contagious.  Duluth Elite continues to expand its presence in Gwinnett County.  Our program has grown from 15 young men in 2011, to serving the needs of over 50 young men in the community in 2012. In 2011 our programs primarily served youth in the Duluth High School cluster. With the success of our program, word of mouth, social media, and various email campaigns, Duluth Elite continues to expand its role in the community. In 2012 our reach extended to touch youth in Berkmar, Peachtree Ridge, Shiloh, South Gwinnett, Parkview, Wesleyan, Norcross, North Springs, and Brookwood schools.  In 2013 we expect continued growth and service to the community. We are projected to serve over 90 young men this year and field six (6) AAU teams this season. We will have a combined 4th/5th, 6th, 8th, 9th/10th, 11th, and 12th grade teams this season.
We accomplished much in 2012.  All four of the seniors in our program graduated from high school and two were accepted and enrolled in college. During 2012 we diligently maintained our strict academic standards, requiring every member to maintain a 2.5 GPA with a minimum 2.0 GPA to participate with most students recording a 2.3 GPA or higher.
Once again our 10th grade AAU basketball team was successful in qualifying and playing in the 2012 AAU National Championship Tournament in Orlando, FL.  We were blessed to travel to Orlando FL, Birmingham AL, Clemson SC, and Nashville TN where the young men were able to play in major tournaments in front of college coaches and scouts but also visit and tour historic sites such as The Parthenon and the Wells Built Museum of African American History.
The organization sponsored a trip to the movie to see "Red Tails" a feature film based on the historic lives of the Tuskegee Airman, WWII's highly decorated African American fighter squadron. During the summer of 2012 we added a program for younger boys in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade. We closed the 2012 fiscal year with our 2nd Annual Awards Dinner where we recognized the leadership, student athletes, volunteers, and coaches for their accomplishments throughout the year by presenting them with individual awards.
This year we will participate in a number of exposure and NCAA certified tournaments. We will travel several times to South Carolina for major Big Shots exposure tournaments and end the season with a major national exposure tournament in Las Vegas, NV.
Our short term goal is to continue to serve the community and to become the premier basketball organization in Gwinnett County and the State of Georgia. Be on the lookout for more news and information.
