Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2024

   Who We Are
   What We Do
   How To Help

Dear Friends,

As we prepare for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) in October, we are reminded of the importance of our collective action in creating a world free from domestic violence. DVAM is an opportunity for all of us—supporters, advocates, and community partners—to stand together to uplift those who have experienced domestic violence.

This month, we are also excited to share key DVAM events, celebrate the successes of our Workforce Development Program, and highlight other community events.

Let’s come together and make October a month of awareness, empowerment, and solidarity.

DVAM Highlights

The Clothesline Project

Sponsor a Family this DVAM

All DVAM Fundraising Efforts Will Support the "Sponsor a Family" Gift Card Drive, to support families during drastic government funding cuts

Funding for families this year is especially crucial given the Mayor’s decision to cut housing programs across the city.

Budget cuts have led to drastic reductions in programs available for families in need. The DC Department of Human Services is currently terminating housing support for 2,000 families from the Family Rehousing and Stabilization (FRSP) program. Because of this cut, MSP will no longer be able to provide case management to 150 families assigned to our FRSP program.

Even though we will no longer be a part of the FRSP program, MSP is committed to supporting these families as much as possible. To ease the shock of the abrupt termination of this program, you can help by providing a final gift to families exiting the program. We are raising funds to give each family money for the holidays. Your contribution will allow parents to support their families and provide gifts for their children, offering empowerment and personal choice during this challenging time.

Please sponsor a family today – the more funds we raise, the more we can give each family during this unstable time.

Spotlight on the Workforce Development Program: Client Career Fair Success

Our Workforce Development Program continues to empower survivors on their path to independence. Earlier this month, MSP's first Client Career Fair connected survivors with local employers and essential resources curated by our Workforce Development Specialist.

MSP clients attended and connected with vendors across a range of career fields and opportunities. Over half the clients who attended walked away with program certification registrations or job offers. MSP is holding another Career Fair this week to continue connecting clients with opportunities on an ongoing basis.

Your support helps make these opportunities possible. Together, we’re providing survivors with the tools to thrive.

Join Our Mission: MSP Attends AU Nonprofit Career Fair and is Hiring!

Last month, we had the privilege of participating in the American University Nonprofit Career Fair. Meeting with passionate students and professionals eager to drive change was truly inspiring.

Speaking of, MSP is currently hiring across a range of positions. These roles offer a chance to be part of a transformative organization committed to ending domestic violence. If you or someone you know is interested, we’d love to connect.

Thank you for standing with us and we hope to see you in October!

With gratitude,
