Good Morning Folks,

While we didn’t have any events last week, both Vickie and I remained quite busy. While I completed the collection of forty-six city council and water district candidate names and contact information, and then sent out forty-six candidate interview invitations, Vickie was elsewhere.

Vickie spent the better part of last week in St. Louis at the National Association of Home Builders Association Management Conference. The other two days were spent in airports. The AMC is a quick three-day rundown of what the NAHB and the local builders’ associations around the country CAN do. Location, culture, manpower, and will are the only limitations. However, three days going through the limited agenda gives everyone not in the industry for a decade or more whiplash.

The AMC training is not just for those new to the industry. There is always something to learn. I expect to take my turn next year. The best part of these trainings is finding mentors. They could be mentors in generally everything, or in a specific program or division. It is also open to members of the organization, not just staff.

Coachella Valley Conservation Commission

A couple of weeks ago, I spoke of our concern relating to the latest draft of the multiple species’ habitat conservation plan – local development mitigation fee study that doubles the current fee paid by new construction, and ultimately home buyers. Apparently, there was a Finance Committee Meeting which may not have gone to plan. Staff recommended proceeding forward while two attached letters in the staff report had concerns regarding the current program. DVBA’s letter was inserted as well. A concerned citizen reached out to the DVBA for our thoughts. This is an ongoing issue that should be followed by all who have a connection to the Coachella Valley's economic vitality.

Cashback Cure

The Friday File: The federal government deficit/GDP ratio is 6%. Based on a $32T economy, that’s $2T. Federal government spending is $8T. If we could get the deficit/GDP down to the growth rate in nominal GDP, historically 4%, the debt/GDP ratio wouldn’t rise, fiscal deterioration stops. The easiest way, a 2% cash back government credit card! 2% of $8T is $160B, that about a one-quarter of the way. So easy!
