A Message from Co-Presidents Carol Pauley and Kathy Hardy

In the spirit of the season, our intention was to lay off Donald Trump this month. But no, halfway into December, Trump is at it again. A whole week of awful stuff has gone down so we’re ranting one more time.

  • Twenty-four hours after the murders of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, Trump was on Truth Social yelling that Reiner’s death was due to Trump Derangement Syndrome (all caps). “He (Reiner) was known to have driven people CRAZY by his obsession with President Donald J Trump.” The next day, Trump doubled down on his undignified and ugly post.
  • Trump’s name was installed on the Kennedy Center without approval of Congress. The president says the change was unanimous (a lie). We all know that only an act of congress can change the name and that did not happen. But poof, by Friday his name was on the building. Is anyone else as angry as we are? Of course you are!
  • Then there are the Epstein files. The Justice Department was legally required to post the files, in their entirety, on the DOJ website by Friday, December 19. What did we get? The files were partially released but also heavily redacted. By Sunday, 12/21, at least 16 of the released files were removed from the website without explanation.
  • The U.S. military said it had conducted two more strikes against boats they said were smuggling drugs in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing five people. Days later, the US seized a second oil tanker in international waters near Venezuela.

Sigh. Current world events are messing with our holiday spirit. What do we do? More songs! Here are two new holiday favorites. The first is sung to the tune of You’re a Mean One, Mr Grinch:

You’re a NIGHTMARE, Mr. Trump.

You have the whiniest thinnest skin!

You’re as trustworthy as a grifter,

You wrote the book on sin, Mr. Trump.

You’re a doddering old man with nasty orange skin!

The second song is one we can all agree on; I Want a Different President for Christmas by Emory Jones:

I want a different president for Christmas

Only a different president will do

I don't want a guy with any felonies

I want a different president who cares if people eat

I want a different president for Christmas

I don't think Santa Claus would mind, Do you?

They won't want to use a stupid new ballroom

Just bring them through the front door

and try hard to make it soon

I can see us now on Christmas morning

Turning on the news

Oh, a joy and what surprise

When we open up our eyes

And see a new guy in the old ballroom

I want a different president for Christmas

Only a different president will do

Don't want to see a friend of Jeff Epstein

Just bring us someone who can feel some empathy

And hopefully they care for you and me

Happy holidays; see you in the new year.

We are in this together.

Artist Patrick Henry recently created a significant mural, "Collaboration, Education, Community," for the historic Germantown School Community Heritage Center in Berlin. The Germantown School was opened in 1922 to provide education to the African American community at a time when the Eastern Shore maintained a segregated educational system. The presentation of the mural celebrates the Rosenwald School's legacy for Black students. The Rosenwald Schools were a network of over 5,000 high-quality schools built across the rural South from 1910's-1930's by Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington, representing a powerful Black-Jewish partnership in empowerment. The schools provided vital education, fostered community, narrowed the education gap and launched generations of leaders. The presentation of the mural marks the community's reclamation and recent improvements of the school, which now houses a museum. The ribbon cutting was a well-attended ceremony held in mid-December 2025. The mural depicts the school's history, from its founding in 1922 through its service, closure, repurposing, and return as a community hub, adding to the restored facility's significance as a local heritage site.

REPUBLIC

By Debra Linette Wood

(Presented at the DWC November meeting)

The republic for which I stand is for every woman and man,

White, brown, yellow, and tan.

I extend my hand to everyone I see,

For in this union, we are truly free.

No matter where your journey may have led,

Or ancient stories by your ancestors bred,

Here, by shared ideals, our spirits are fed,

With equal hope, our common path we tread.

From sun-scorched deserts to mountains so high,

Beneath the vast and overarching sky,

Our varied voices in one anthem lie,

A testament to dreams that never die.

For in our differences, a strength we find,

A richer tapestry for heart and mind.

Each unique perspective, thoughtfully combined,

Unlocks the wisdom that uplifts humankind.

The vibrant hues of every creed and tongue,

Like notes in concert, beautifully sung,

Expand our vision, where new truths are sprung,

And richer stories of our world are spun.

From myriad paths, new solutions arise,

A brighter future born before our eyes.

With empathy as guide, and understanding's prize,

We build a nation that forever thrives.

PAC Report for November

Social Media Campaign

Stay for lunch and brainstorming. We need your ideas even if you don’t have social media experience. We need a plan and then we can decide who and what we need for help to implement it.

Creative Action Wednesdays

Creative Action Wednesdays are gatherings where we will channel our energy into hands-on democratic action. Together, we create postcards for voters, design “bookmarks for democracy,” and collaborate on upcoming civic-engagement plans. It’s a welcoming space to get creative, stay connected, and make a meaningful impact—one small action at a time.

We will meet regularly from mid-January to the end of February, starting on January 14th. All meet-ups will be at the Worcester County Youth and Family Services meeting room at 124 North Main Street Suite C, across from the Sterling Tavern. Except for February 4th which will be at Panera.

Bookmarks for Democracy

We held a Fall of Freedom Event at the Ocean Pines library on November 21st

We decorated creative resistance bookmarks to support (and celebrate!) our 1st Amendment and Due Process rights, with nonpartisan statements, pictures and quotes!!

We created over 50 bookmarks. The bookmarks we made will be left at the circulation desks of our libraries for people to take. We may also leave them in Free Little Libraries. We plan to continue this effort next year.

The Democratic Women's Club celebrated the end of 2025 with a Holiday luncheon that not only marked the swearing-in of our new Board of Directors for 2026, but also showcased the incredible culinary talents of the students from the Culinary & Pastry Arts Program at Worcester Technical High School, under the guidance of Chef Instructor Phil Cropper. With over seventy enthusiastic members of the DWC gathered in the beautifully decorated auditorium, the air was filled with laughter, connection, and the delightful aromas of a sumptuous buffet. As we reflect on our achievements over the past year, let's embrace the important projects that await us in 2026 and the midterm elections. Together, let's harness our passion for democracy and step into the new year with a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to support the democratic values and the Democratic Party candidates up for election throughout the country.
