Utoy Creek Water Reclamation Center Named
Facility of the Year
Atlanta - The City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management’s (DWM) Utoy Water Reclamation Center (WRC) was selected as the 2021 Water Facility of the Year Award in the category of Advanced Treatment of 10 million gallons daily (MGD).

The Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) presented the award to DWM officials and Utoy Creek WRC staff during a ceremony at the facility. Utoy Creek WRC was recently honored with a Gold Award from GAWP for having no permit violations in the 2020 calendar year for Maximum Containment Levels (MCLs) and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination (NPDES), or pretreatment violations.

“This is a major achievement for the City of Atlanta, the Department, and especially the staff here at Utoy Creek,” said DWM Commissioner Mikita Browning. They have exceeded expectations in spite of the challenges posed by the pandemic, and I am honored GAWP recognizes the hard work and resiliency of the staff.”

Established in 1932, GAWP provides education and training on drinking water and wastewater treatment, water resources and stormwater management, water conservation, utility management and customer service, and the broad realm of activities required to responsibly manage Georgia water resources. Access www.atlantawatershed.org for more information about Utoy Creek WRC and other DWM facilities. To learn more about GAWP, please visit www.gawp.org.
National Hydration Day
The U.S. celebrates National Hydration Day every year on June 23rd. Proper hydration is vital to living a healthy life, but it’s often overlooked. It’s easy to forget to carry a water bottle on a hot day outside, but skipping out on H2O can lead to major health risks. Whether you’re a professional athlete, a casual exerciser, or someone who simply loves to spend time outside in the sun, drinking water is key to avoiding heat stroke, dehydration, and other dangerous issues. Celebrating National Hydration Day is a great way to raise awareness!

Help Keep Our Catch Basins Clean Through the
Adopt-A-Drain Program
The City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management’s Adopt-A-Drain program helps improve the quality of stormwater within the city’s watersheds, as well as keep the City informed about infrastructure maintenance needs.

The Adopt-A-Drain program encourages volunteers to adopt a storm drain in or near their neighborhoods, commit to cleaning the drain of leaves and other debris and then monitor the condition of that drain for the duration of the adoption.

Volunteers will receive training and a storm drain cleaning supply kit. For more information or to sign up, please call 404-546-1411 or send an email to tlawson@atlantaga.gov.
