What is DYNA-MAX???
DYNA-MAX Life Improvement
The DYNA-MAX process is a duplex diffusion process incorporating the DYNA-BLUE process with a low temperature (575C) Chromium Carbonitride deposition layer that does not soften the hardened steel matrix like CVD coatings.  It also alleviates flaking, peeling, and delamination associated with PVD coatings. The DYNA-BLUE layer acts as a catalyst to diffuse the Chromium into the steel and also provides excellent support for the extremely hard (1520 Vickers) surface The DYNA-MAX process resists wear, corrosion, and heat checking, while dramatically increasing tool life!!!
Compare the results of DYNA-MAX(DST-Cr) to other surface treatments:
DYNA-MAX outlasts Chromium Nitride Coatings and Ion/Gas Nitriding by 3-10 times. Wear tests have shown DYNA-MAX to resist wear, corrosion, and heat checking on die cast tooling better than other surface treatments and coatings due to the hard wear resistant        (1520 HV) Chromium Nitride layer that is diffused into the surface and is supported by a Nitrogen rich diffusion layer. Better release properties are also reported. Click here to see DYNA-MAX Tool Life
1. Compare the properties of DYNA-MAX to other surface treatments:
"The wear resistance of a surface treatment/coating depends on
1.Surface hardness. 2. Resistance to flaking, peeling, brittleness.  3. Depth of hardness. DYNA-max is harder (1520 HV) as compared to 60-65 HRC (697-832 HV) forIon Nitriding. DYNA-MAX is diffused into the steel so there is no chipping, flaking, or peeling like other CrN Coatings. Total depth of hardness is .005"-.010 deep vs .0001-.0002" for CrN coating. The DYNA-MAX layer is uniform on all surfaces and even penetrates bores, ejector pin holes, ribs etc and is not line of sight like CrN PVD coatings that cannot. There is no buildup on edges like CrN Coatings. Also DYNA-MAX can be welded without pin hole porosity experienced with Nitriding. Design changes are no problem, DYNA-MAX does not need to be striped when reprocessing on welded or reground surfaces, it blends in.

2. Compare the microstructure of DYNA-MAX to other surface treatments /coatings:

The DYNA-MAX process provides a hard wear resistant Chromium Carbonitride  layer @ 1520 HV diffused int the steel 2-3 microns deep, supported by a nitrogen rich diffusion layer @1050-650HV for .005-.010" deep.Coatings such as CrN are not diffused into the steel, have no metallurgical bond or support and can flake and peel off when the substrate goes into plastic deformation.

Cut cost, increase tool life
"The most cost effective way to cut your die/tool cost is to increase die/tool life with DYNA-MAX". DYNA-MAX increases tool life 3-10 times longer than Chromium Nitride coatings and Ion/Gas Nitriding. The DYNA-MAX process has consistently been more cost effective with a lower cost per piece (shots) than more expensive coatings such as CrN as well as less expensive treatments such as nitriding.

Also problems with aluminm sticking, welding and dimensional stability are eliminated.
"Our DYNA-MAX is a proven process that has saved thousands of dollars for die cast operations. The DYNA-MAX process is the most cost effective solution to reduce wear, corrosion, washout, and heat checking from aluminum die casting, increases release properties, and provides weldability and stability, in fact we guarantee it".

Sincerely,
