From Your Administrative Team

Hello Families,

Eid Mubarak to all in our community who celebrated Eid al-Fitr and the end of Ramadan last week!

Also, May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month! You can find many resources on the many ways to learn about, honor and celebrate the AAPI community HERE.

State testing is underway! Students are completing their tests ahead of schedule--you can view our updated tentative schedule HERE. We appreciate everyone's hard work in making sure that testing runs as effectively and efficiently as possible, while maintaining a positive environment for students!

The best way you can help support your student in this experience is to help them get enough sleep each night and to eat a protein-filled breakfast each morning! Please also help them make a plan to keep their cell phones/smart watches off and away during testing. This can impact the validity of an entire class's tests, resulting in a report and investigation with the state. In addition, studies have shown that the farther away our phone is away from us, the better we perform on important tasks (including connecting with others!). Thank you in advance for trusting us to navigate this experience humanely with your students!

Take Good Care,

Kaitlin (she/her) and Sage (he/him)

Scholastic Book Fair!

THIS WEEK! 5/1-5/5 from 11:00am-4:00pm

Del Aire Community Center (right next door to campus)!

We are so excited to offer an in-person Book Fair this year! Please review THIS FLYER carefully. There will be no cash/credit card exchanges--everyone must set up and purchase through their E-Wallet.

*Some classes will be visiting the fair to browse during their school day. We must have a permission slip on file in order for your child to walk with their class to the Community Center. Check in with your child's teacher for details.

We are asking for 10 volunteers each day from 10:30-4:15 to cover set-up and closing. Here is the link to volunteer: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C044BA8AF2EA0F85-scholastic1. We won't be able to pull off the fair without your help! Reach out to Theresa with any questions you might have.

Garden Club on Tues/Thurs Mornings!

We will be meeting on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the blacktop garden area from 8:45 to 9:10 am.  Please use the appropriate sign-in sheets located in the front office. Thankfully, we're making a great amount of progress and we can see the GROWING excitement from our students who visit the garden space on a regular basis. The next phase of the project includes creating opportunities for our "Student Garden Ambassadors". This initiative could include creating a 'Homeschool' learning opportunity for a community service activity.  Parents who are interested in learning more about the project objectives or joining the Garden Club committee, we will be posting updates and other invitations to support the project in the weekly newsletter. *If you are continuing with us or are a new family wanting to expand your gardening experience, please click HERE to complete a short survey. For questions and comments email jdurham@davincischools.org
