PICTURE OF THE WEEK
ARTICLE OF THE WEEK
What is an upstander? As part of our  #YHTyouandme  program this year, grades 1-8 are learning about how to stand up for someone in need. Students participated in Jewish studies lessons, an assembly and read a book of the month about how it feels when no one stands up for you. They discussed how to be brave and stand up for others. Our school created a symbol representing including everyone by decorating a buddy bench. Each class voted on a word that embodies friendship and wrote that word on our bench. After winter vacation, members of our psychology team will be running special sessions about empathy. Leaders are empathetic and stand up for those in need. Our Parsha table talks through sefer shemot have been focusing on leadership and the middot we need to cultivate in order to be leaders. Look out for more activities and learning related to empathy!

AN EARLY TASTE OF TU B'SHVAT
Since Tu B'Shvat falls out during winter break, YHT celebrated early this year. On Rosh Chodesh Shvat, this past Monday, all students enjoyed a variety of Tu B'Shvat treats in their Judaic Studies classes. Many couldn't decide if their favorite was the green and white cookies, the clementines, the raisins, or the carob! A huge thank you to Dora Agajan and Kimmy Soleimani for procuring over 700 of each item for our kids to enjoy. Thanks to our crew who packed everything in record time:  Dora Agajan, Dahlia Jacob, Kimmy Soleimani, and Ilana Talitian.  Happy early Tu B'Shvat from the PTA!
