PICTURE OF THE WEEK
ARTICLE OF THE WEEK
Author studies are a wonderful way for children to gain a robust understanding of literature. When children are exposed to a wide variety of styles, they learn to compare and contrast writing styles, and their literacy experiences become richer. In our early childhood classes, we study authors such as Donald Crews, Mo Willems, Dr. Seuss, Robert Munch and Eric Carle, to name just a few. We use an interdisciplinary approach where art and math activities are woven into the fabric of the learning. Our children use inventive spelling to write about the stories they hear as well create collages which illustrate the books that they read. Venn diagrams provide the framework for some comparisons of various stories. These author studies help children develop a lifelong love of reading!
