PICTURE OF THE WEEK
ARTICLE OF THE WEEK
Right after we returned from Pesach vacation, our 6 th grades embarked on the annual 6 th Grade Greenkill Adventure. At Greenkill, an environmental study center in Huguenot, New York, our students were involved in a total outdoor education experience which emphasized environmental science and outdoor skills development as well as group dynamics. In addition, they all took part in the “Project Adventure Course” which helped our students realize the importance of working as a group and the need for cooperation to ensure success. Without access to any electronic devices, the 6 th graders learned how much fun they could have and how much they could learn from the “Great Outdoors” They searched the lake for its myriad aquatic inhabitants as they participated in water ecology. They discovered how to survive in the forest as they built shelters and learned how to make a fire. They marveled at the wildlife that live in the Greenkill area and were brought into close contact with amazing birds of prey. The two days were topped off with an amusing and entertaining outdoor campfire at the lake that included the participation of all of our students.
