Daily Activities at Carnevali's Schools
Library Visits

A daily routine in all our India schools is a library visit. Carnevali Foundation funds librarians in all our schools and teachers select books based on the National Curriculum. This is important for many reasons; children do not have books at home and no access to a public library, students can select books in areas where they need more information to prepare for national exams, reading levels increase, and most importantly, they discover the joy and opportunity to explore their interests, their heritage and information about the larger world.

Telugu is the most common local language, but it can be challenging to find durable, long-lasting books in Telugu. Carnevali Foundation covers the paper books we are able to purchase with a hard cover, so they will last no matter how many hands turn the pages!

Daily Math Lessons

The Hyderabad Education Department provides math workbooks for all children. Teachers enhance these lessons with educational games, skill drills and periodic testing. Most students who graduate (and are eligible for further studies), pursue careers in computers and engineering – so a solid foundation is fundamental.

Although India produces 1.5 million engineers, only 3% are eligible for high-level, well-paid jobs. This is due to skill proficiency and instruction at the high school and university levels. It's an ongoing challenge and we are working on solutions for optimal education.
Mid-Day Meal

Students line up for a mid-day meal, with food provided by the Government. Cooks are hired locally and all children receive generous portions (noting that for some children it may be their only meal).

They line up in an orderly fashion, class by class, and eat outside on the ground or on the walkways outside the classrooms. Without daily food and nutrition, it would be hard for the students to focus and learn.

Food is provided for pre-school children which includes a protein supplement to support extra needs of 3 and 4 year olds.
Meal Cleanup

Each student is given a metal plate at the beginning of lunch and it is rare to see any food left on their plates. They are also allowed to return for second helpings.

At the end of meal time, students wash their own dishes in the sinks which are connected to the school’s RO System (Reverse Osmosis). This means they are washing with potable, clean water.
Support for Mothers and Children in Nepal

Carnevali Foundation has built many schools in Nepal through donations to Chay Ya. Chay Ya supports many worthwhile initiatives, including a recent effort to provide essential items to help mothers and children. Food, clothing, and blankets are just some of the items they have collected.

Congratulations to Sabine Klotz and her team for their ongoing commitment to improve life in Kathmandu and nearby regions.
