Stop, Look and Listen.

Literature, painting, music - the most basic lesson that all art teaches us is to stop, look and listen to life on this planet, including our own lives, as a vastly richer, deeper, more mysterious business than most of the time it ever occurs to us to suspect as we bumble along from day to day on automatic pilot. ...

When Jesus [says] that the greatest command of all is to love God and to love our neighbor, he too is asking us to pay attention. If we are to love God, we must first stop, look and listen for him in what is happening around us and inside us. If we are to love our neighbors, before doing anything else we must see our neighbors. With our imagination as well as our eyes, that is to say like artists, we must see not just their faces but the life behind and within their faces. Here it is love that is the frame we see them in.

Well now is your chance! We are pulling together an adult step team to minister at Sunday services in the Fall and a potential outside engagement in the Spring. We will have our first practices on July 22nd  and July 29th from 10 AM -12 PM (location TBD). If you are interested in stepping please email Servant Wilma Robinson at wmtilson@aol.com

Back to School Backpack School Supply Drive
Metropolitan Family, it's that time of year again!  The Christian Discipleship Council (CDC) will host our 7th Annual Backpack School Supply Drive
during the months of July and August.  For just $25.00, your donation will provide a deserving student with a backpack full of school supplies. To sponsor a student, please visit the CDC table immediately following the worship service. Our goal is to give away 150 Backpacks! Thank you for your support! Backpacks will be distributed on Sunday, August 20, 2017. For additional information you can contact Rev. Adriane Blair Wise or see any member of CDC.
Calling all Medical Professionals
If you are a licensed or certified medical professional, your ministry is needed during Sunday worship services.  Metropolitan is committed to providing the best possible service to our members.  Volunteers are needed to serve on a rotational basis to assist with medical emergencies that may arise and we need your help.  If you are available for this important ministry, please contact Dr. Sherrill McMillan at the church office at 202-238-5000 or online at www.metropolitantbaptist.org.   Your response is greatly appreciated.

We Are One Body
The "We Are One Body" table will be set up in the far, right corner of the Sanctuary (Behind the organ) on Sunday, April 9, 2017. It will only be open after the 9:30 a.m. and the 11:30 a.m. Worship Services.  As always, if you need something from the table, take it! If you would like to be a blessing to someone, we ask that you bring non-perishable items (small/ medium sizes only). Give your offering to one of the One Body Team members so we can add your contribution to the table.  God is in the blessing business. Bring a blessing and be blessed. Together we will make this happen! See you at the table. Remember, Jesus said, "In as much as ye have done it for the least of these ye have done it unto me."

REGISTER for the CDC Summer Institute: Ministry Communications

Metropolitan, the Christian Discipleship Council is providing a special class offering for our Summer Institute entitled Ministry Communications.  This class is designed to assist ministry leaders but anyone can learn from our time together.

Metropolitan has nearly 5000 subscribers on YouTube, almost 3000 likes on Facebook, just under 1000 followers on Twitter and over 500 Instagram followers.  In this session we will take a look at how your ministry can leverage the church's communication tools, including video announcements, the daily bread online, the website and social media to tell your story. Participants will leave with a strategy for planning their ministry's communications year.
This three-part series will be held on July 11th, 18th, and 25th and taught by our very own Min. Lela Harris. Registration is required. Please register online or in the church office.

Attention Parents and Caretakers

Metropolitan is committed to the safety and protection of our children.  We are requesting parents to escort their children to and from the bathroom  during worship services.  We appreciate your cooperation.
