GOV. ABBOTT ANNOUNCES INITIAL COVID-19 VACCINE DISTRIBUTION FOR DECEMBER
Governor Greg Abbott announced Wednesday that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has made an initial allotment of over 1.4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccines to the State of Texas for the month of December.

These vaccines, which should begin arriving in Texas the week of December 14th, will be distributed to qualifying providers across the state who will administer these immunizations based on the Vaccine Distribution Principles developed by the state’s Expert Vaccine Allocation Panel

Additional allotments may be made later this month for December.
Also, increased allotments are expected in January and the following months.

GIVING TUESDAY HOLDS MORE WEIGHT FOR ABILENE NONPROFITS THIS YEAR
Giving Tuesday is always a big day for nonprofits in the Key City, but this year the day holds a little more weight.

“Most nonprofits and most businesses at some point got shutdown,” said Executive Director for the Abilene Youth Sports Authority, Brandon Osborne. “We were one of those, experienced about two and half weeks of nothing.”

The Abilene Youth Sports Authority is back open now, but rewind a couple of months to what we’ll call the beginning of the game. The nonprofit’s new facility had just opened and within weeks, many weren’t sure if they were ever going to see the final score.

“We were all just wondering what’s going to happen next because each week was always different,” said Osborne.

CITY OF ABILENE REQUESTING BUSINESS COMMUNITY INPUT FOR COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
Despite the global pandemic the City of Abilene remains committed to our continued growth and development, but we cannot do that without the input and help from our business community. In 2004, the City adopted our current Comprehensive Plan which has guided the growth and development of our community for 16 years. This plan has reached the end of its useful life and Abilene has grown outside of the current plan’s original scope.

What is a comprehensive plan? It is a planning process that determines a community’s goals and aspirations in terms of community development. It both expresses and regulates public policies on transportation, utilities, land use, recreation and housing. It allows for our community to plan development in a way that protects valued resources, protects public investments, and promotes economic development.

This is our community and the City of Abilene wants to ensure that the future of Abilene both reflects the character of its citizens and plans growth in a way that is equitable for all of its members.

We need your help. The only way we achieve a comprehensive plan that is reflective of the goals and aspirations of the citizens and business owners in Abilene, is if Abilene’s citizens and business owners provide the valuable input needed to create it.

The City of Abilene along with the consultants helping us complete the plan is hosting a virtual meeting on Wednesday, December 9, at 2:30 pm, just for the members of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce. This will be your opportunity to help guide the future of Abilene’s development for the next 20 years.

To register for the meeting, please email the Chamber here. For additional details on the comprehensive plan and process, click here.
