BREAKING NEWS FROM THE CARMEL PINE CONE
May 8, 2020, 10:31 a.m.
HEALTH DEPARTMENT EASES RESTRICTIONS ON SOME BUSINESSES
Monterey County Health Officer Edward Moreno this morning announced changes to the county's shelter in place order — changes that will apparently let some businesses reopen immediately.
The revised order follows guidance from Gov. Gavin Newsom, who said Monday that many parts of California were ready to enter what Newsom called "Phase 2" of the state's battle against the coronavirus epidemic.
Here is the text of Moreno's announcement:
Monterey County Health Officer Dr. Edward Moreno today issued a supplement to the current Shelter-in-Place Order allowing local businesses to conduct limited re-openings as Governor Gavin Newsom launches Stage 2 of his Reopening Roadmap.
Beginning Friday, May 8, 2020 certain retail businesses may begin providing curbside pick-up services to customers. Examples of such businesses include bookstores, clothing stores, florists, sporting goods stores and other over-the-counter retailers. In addition, manufacturing and supply chain workplaces supporting these businesses may open. Social Distancing Protocols must be followed in all of these settings. Members of the public may place orders online or via telephone only. Retailers are not allowed to display merchandise on sidewalks.
Other types of businesses, including shopping malls, dine-in services, hair and nail salons, movie theaters and more, remain prohibited from operating.
Business owners are advised to review State guidance to determine whether their establishments may reopen as well as operational practices, so that they may avoid enforcement actions. Information is available at https://covid19.ca.gov/roadmap/.
“This Supplemental Order shows we have made progress in our fight against the virus. However, we must not let down our guard and must continue with our efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19,” said Dr. Edward Moreno. “With additional testing and contact investigations we will be on the alert for any rise in cases as well as hospitalizations. We will continue to review surveillance data and models in order to plan for the next steps.”
The May 4 Shelter in Place Order, with supplement, remains in effect.
Local City Update- 6 May 2020, From Sunset Center
Thank you to the City for having the Carmel Chamber & a Dancer from Carmel Academy of Performing Arts as your special guests!
Please keep in mind, the following is for
information purposes only
- Monterey County has not, to date, given indication that a COUNTY VARIANCE has been made. However, it would be prudent for businesses to begin researching the State's Industry Guidelines to prepare for re-opening when the time is upon us.
To that end, the Carmel Chamber will begin providing complimentary webinars for our members starting next Thursday to help guide businesses through these next stages. See the link below to register for our first webinar presented by TPO the HR Experts.
