WALKING BY FAITH AND NOT BY SIGHT
Many can relate to the disciple Thomas. He was not in the room when Jesus showed up after the resurrection. The other disciples had seen Jesus and saw the nail prints. They tried to tell Thomas about it, but his response was
“….Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.”
(John 20:25) This is the way of many folks when you try to share what the Lord has done in our lives. They want to see it for themselves.
Faith is believing without seeing. If we see it, it does not take any faith to “know it.” We are made in three parts, spirit, soul, and body. The soul is our mind, will and emotions. The body is the fleshly shell we live in. The spirit comes alive when it is born again by the blood of Jesus Christ through salvation. We must learn to be controlled by our spirit. At salvation, our spirit is seated “in” Christ in the heavenly places. God communicates to us through the spirit realm. We have “spirit ears,” so to speak. The flesh and the soul want to dictate to us what we are to do, but the spirit is where faith comes from. To walk by faith, we must be led by Holy Spirit, and not our emotions or our will. We are to crucify or put to death the fleshly desires that come to our minds. This is the only way to walk by faith. We can’t see faith. We can’t taste or smell it, but it is there. It is that inner witness that we “hear from God” with.
Faith is developed by hearing the Word of God. The more we hear it, the stronger our faith becomes. If we do not listen to the Word either by hearing it preached, or reading it, our soul and bodies will dictate what we do. Faith is a choice. We either want it or we don’t. Hebrews tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God, so those that are walking by faith are pleasing God. It is wonderful to know that we can please Him by just believing what He says. Faith is as simple as that my friends. Just believing that God meant what he said and being assured that He cannot lie.
Are you walking by faith or sight? I challenge you to read the Word of God more than the internet or television. Let the Word build your faith up, and your entire life will change. Do not be like Thomas anymore. Believe without seeing.
