70 X 7

The apostle Peter came to Jesus and made an inquiry in Matthew 18:21, “…Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Till seven times?"  That seemed like a fair question; after all, if the person that did the sinning did it over and over isn’t seven times enough before you say, “enough is enough?” Yet the answer Jesus came back with was 70 x 7. That is 490 times. Some scholars have said it is to be done that many times in a day. Seeing that there are 1,440 minutes in a day, that amounts to forgiving nearly every three minutes. There would have to have been a lot of sinning to account for that many times.

Jesus goes on to tell Peter the story about a King that took account of the “books” and found a servant that owed a considerable amount of money. He was going sell the man, his wife, and all that he had to pay the debt. Still, it would not have been enough. The man begged for mercy, and the King had compassion on him and forgave him the entire debt. That is supernatural debt cancellation. This man that was forgiven goes out and sees a man that owed him a few dollars and demanded that this man pay the debt. The second debtor asked for mercy but there was none given. He threw him into prison. He would have to stay there until the debt was paid.

Some of the second debtor’s friends went to the King and told him what happened. When the King found out what the man did, he was angry. He took the man that had been forgiven and put him into prison where he would be tormented and would have to stay there until the debt was paid. Unfortunately, there was no way to pay the debt being bound in prison.   Jesus goes on to say to Peter that this would happen to everyone that doesn’t forgive others.

Forgiveness not only releases the one that sinned, it releases the one that gives forgiveness. When we don’t forgive, we put ourselves into an extremely dangerous position.  We become bound and there is no way out. We become tormented and may not understand why, but it is because of the lack of forgiveness.

God forgives us our sin when we repent. It releases us from a future in hell. Without forgiveness we would all be lost. We must show God’s love by forgiving others, no matter how big or small the sin is. We must forgive.

Are there those that you haven’t forgiven? Do not take the chance of missing heaven because of it. Make things right now. Ask the Lord to forgive you for holding on to unforgiveness. By doing this you are set free. Giving this gift to someone that does not deserve it is showing grace and mercy. How often must you do this? 70 x 7.

THINGS NEW, THINGS OLD

Chapter 13 of Matthew contains Jesus’ seven parables on the “Mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven.” Parables are “mysteries” because not everyone can understand the spiritual meaning behind the description of something in the natural. Additional revelation is usually needed or is helpful.

The seven parables were:

1.       The sower
2.       The tares and wheat
3.       The mustard seed
4.       The leaven
5.       The hidden Treasure
6.       The Pearl
7.       The cast net

Afterward, Jesus asked the multitude if they understood all of it. They lied; they said , “yes, Lord.”  Jesus then said something in v 52 that was another parable. (NKJV ) “therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.”

A “scribe” is one who wrote or “kept” the written word of God. A “householder” would be one with the responsibility of overseeing or “keeping” that word for the “house,” the kingdom of heaven. The “scribe” or “keeper” shall bring forth out of that treasure, the Word of God, both things old and things new.

You and I represent the “scribe.” As we study the Word and bring it forth (speak it or teach it), some of it is the “old” which we have already known. Some of it is the “new” with which the Holy Spirit enlightens to us as we study it. Without “keeping” the study of the word, we would receive neither “new” understanding nor a “refreshing” (new light) on our previous (old) understanding. Holy Spirit is our teacher of the word and our revealer of Jesus the Christ.

This is why it is important to read and study the Word. To keep our understanding from becoming stale, we need that freshness, the refreshing from the Word and Holy Spirit.

PROPHETIC WORD

One day you’ll be able to fully understand just why God closed that door on you when He did. Yes, you know; It’s that door you’d prayed about and you really thought you wanted it to open. Now in looking back perhaps at times you still have some questions regarding that closed door. If so, you can be assured that it was God protecting you... By not allowing that door to open for you. Some of you may remember how you even convinced yourself that door was a God thing. Well it’s ok for you’re not alone; Most folks have been at that very same place...At least once in their lifetime. So if you ever find yourself wondering about it all; You can know that God was not depriving you of anything good for your life. In fact, He was actually doing you a big favor. You see, your all knowing and loving God looked at the situation and saw that door was a deliberately laid trap of the enemy; And it was sent to take you down roads of bitter pain and disappointment. So through it all you can still look back and thank God for protecting you; Back then, today, tomorrow and for always.
