SUUSI HELPLINE 540-534-1575

call or text 7 am to 11pm

Welcome to our first full day at SUUSI 2025! Please be kind to everyone around you and help others acclimate. Remember we are guests on Radford's campus, and PLEASE rely on SUUSI staff to solve problems not Radford staff. Call the Helpline for help and questions, for Pastoral Care, or to schedule a Star Car trip.

Time Check!

The morning workshop block is the same as in past years: 10am to noon. But afternoon programming has shifted to line up better with our meal and childcare schedules. That block is now 1:30 to 3:30, and Community Time is 3:30-5:30, so plan your afternoon naps accordingly!

Know Your Staff

If you need to know who is in charge of something, it's on the website.

Monday Morning Multigenerational Worship

Hurlburt Auditorium in the Bonnie Student Center, 8:30-9:00 AM

Led by Youth and Middler Chaplain Lauren Levwood and Worship Coordinator Elizabeth Schell with musical offerings by Billy Jonas

We will begin our week with a special multi-generational worship experience starting at 8:30am and ending by 9:15am in order to especially accommodate our young families so parents/caregivers do not have to choose between their spiritual nourishment and their required youth parent orientation that will follow worship. ALL AGES are welcome to celebrate in this festive service focused on centering love within our UU core values. Be prepared for some goofy (snort) UU humor!

Dude, Where's My WiFi?

Radford Conference Services has asked that SUUSI participants use the "Radford-Guest" wifi network to connect to the Internet. Instructions are available on the Radford website at (http://bit.ly/3IFliSt) PLEASE NOTE: you do not need to complete the fields that ask what staff member you are visiting. If you appear to be connected, but unable to reach the Internet, you may need to open a browser and visit this link (http://www.msftconnecttest.com/redirect) to re-authenticate to the Radford system.

STAR CAR CORRECTIONS

The SUUSI Helpline opens at 7am, but the start time for Star Car on Monday is 7:30am. The start time for Star Car Tuesday to Saturday is 8:00am. Waivers are no longer required to ride.

Accessibility Request

For people with food allergies, one bite of the wrong thing can result in a bad night, a bad week, or much worse. If you are serving food or offering snacks, PLEASE make it clear what you are serving (especially if it contains common allergens). If you will not be hovering over it to answer questions, please label it. If you don't have any way of knowing what's in it, feel free to eat it yourself if you want, but please don't give it to others.

Monday Evening Worship

Hurlburt Auditorium in the Bonnie Student Center, 7-7:45 PM

"Love at the Edges," led by Rev. Bill Neely, musical offerings by Caroline Cotter

Love is at the center of our denomination's new Shared Values. This reflects our tradition as well as who we are becoming, as we are a faith rooted in love that is still ever-growing in it. How does this love that remains central to who we are, lead us beyond ourselves to neighbor, stranger, and newcomer? How can our "center" strengthen us for ministry at the edges?

Bill Neely is one of five Neelys who love SUUSI. He began attending in the 90's at the invitation of someone he would eventually marry. They now bring their kids, and it's their favorite week of the year. Bill is the Parish Minister at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton, NJ. He previously served congregations in Detroit and Memphis, and his first UU congregation was the Unitarian Church of Norfolk, Va (now Coastal Virginia Unitarian Universalists). He enjoys mud runs, coffee, the moon, pizza, and all Pittsburgh sports.

WAT is ASFOBYWAT???

Unfortunately, Monday's scheduled Concert Hour performer, Reggie Harris, had to cancel due to COVID. Left with a programming gap to fill, two overcaffeinated members of the Nurture team hatched a wild plan. Introducing... ASFOBYWAT: Adults So Far Off Broadway You Need A Telescope! This shameless last-minute ripoff of TWOB will feature a Broadway revue starring Board and Core Staff members and friends, plus a heartwarming message about the True Meaning of SUUSI and a chance for the audience to sing along. Keep your expectations low and your sense of humor high, and make sure to join us in the Bonnie (Hurlburt Student Center) at 8pm on Monday!

TWOB CLUE!

Each year, our talented teens put on a musical theater production for the whole SUUSI community, called Teen Way Off Broadway. Join us on Friday at 8pm for our single show! Each day this week, you will find a clue in the NUUS that reveals the theme of the show this year. Today’s clue:

You may recognize echoes of past stories, but this one has its own voice.

Think you know the theme? Send your guesses to twob@suusi.org. The first person to guess correctly will get a shout-out in the NUUS! For parents of young children or those with an earlier bedtime, please contact us for assistance in seeing the show.

NUUS FROM NURTURE

Pastoral Care (spiritual, emotional, or social support designed for short-term situations) is available from our Nurture Team Ministers of the Day (MOD) around the clock through 11 am on Saturday (11pm to 7am for emergencies only, please!). Our MODs also have a list of local care providers for referrals. Call the SUUSI Helpline at 540-534-1575 if you need support. Please give an extra-big thank you to Jan Taddeo who filled in as  our Sunday MOD when the minister previously scheduled got COVID!

This week, the Nurture staff will be holding a Recovery space where members of the SUUSI community may seek peace, support, and connection. The Recovery Space will be open 24hrs/day Monday-Friday, for individual and small groups to use for conversations and support when sessions are not in progress.

What’s with Those Paper Clips? They’re About Centering LOVE!

Have you noticed people with heart paper clips on their nametags? You can pick up paper clips at morning and evening worship until they run out! The idea is that if you have a paperclip that you’ve picked up or received from someone else, you watch for the opportunity to give it away! If you see someone centering love, living into our SUUSI covenant and UUA values, give them a paperclip to say thank you!

Thanks to the SUUSI Registration Team for all their hard work on Sunday!

Nothing Boring About Being on the Board

Serving on the SUUSI Board is a great way to contribute to this gathering we love so much. On Thursday, we’ll elect one Adult Trustee for a three‐year term and one Youth Trustee for a two‐year term. Want to run? Come to lunch with current Board members on Monday (Dalton, 11:30 ‐ 1:30) for an informal discussion.

Nominations must be submitted to elections@suusi.org by noon on Tuesday, July 22. Nominees must also submit a candidate introduction to nuus@suusi.org by 1 PM

Tuesday. There will be an Adult Board Candidate Forum on Wednesday at Community Time. Candidate bios will run in the NUUS on Wednesday morning.

Feel free to ask current Board of Trustees members anything about SUUSI! Adult voting can be completed on Thursday by e‐vote through Solis from 7 AM ‐ 7 PM (preferred method) or by physical ballot in the dining hall lobby during mealtimes. Youth voting is

completed in program Thursday.

15 Years Ago at SUUSI...

Please don't try going to Porterfield tonight. And sadly, Reggie's concert scheduled for tonight had to be canceled for health reasons. But SUUSI is all about creating our own fun, so there will be something tonight at Hurlburt Auditorium at 8!

As always, find out the latest news from SUUSI at https://suusi.org
