Wednesday of the First Week in Ordinary Time
Taking the Gospel to Prayer
Once again, Jesus wants to be about His mission -- doing the will of the Father who sent Him. He takes care of Peter's mother-in-law and all of the strangers who are brought to Him. He silences the demons He is expelling for He wants no testimony from them He seeks solitude and prayer, not the notoriety that is being thrust upon Him. He leaves this crowd behind Him and goes to other places where He can continue on the work that He has begun.
It is OK to be proud of our accomplishments. Surely, God wants us to use the gifts He has given us. However, how do we focus the praise? Do we remember to thank God who is the source of our success? Do we acknowledge the others who contributed to the work? Can we walk away without drawing attention to ourselves?
Lord, the influence of the crowd surrounds me. Help me to be mindful that all of my time, talent, and treasure comes from You. Thank You for blessing me.
