Taking the Gospel to Prayer
This is another text that we might gloss over because of its familiarity. Before we pray, we might consider two of the messages:
- Do we give of our time, talent and treasure out of our surplus or do we make a sacrifice?
- Do participate in charitable giving or work for our own praise/gratification?
Philanthropist groups are noting the significant drop in charitable giving currently impacting our society. Even beyond the COVID-19 impact, there is a growing lack of interest in helping others. In the headline stories below you will see some examples that are exceptions to this. For ourselves, we must consider what Jesus tells us. The widow gave all she had - not just the extra. Can we do the same?
Need a place to start? We will be collecting for Avon Lake's CRS programs this weekend - both our monthly items and things for their summer lunch program for kids. Any help you can offer is appreciated and goes a long way.
Loving God, thank You for the blessings in my life. Help me so that I might not be jealous of others who have more than I do. Let me, instead, share with with others. Give me the ability to see the needs around me and respond to the best of my ability.
Lord Jesus, help me to grow closer to You today.
