Season of Creation Prayer Day 24

A unique program at Augsburg University is called River Semester. During this semester-long experience, students travel from the Headwaters of the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico. Students undertake a customized curriculum focused on environmental justice and social change in the Mississippi watershed. This is a chance to explore new ways of learning and living, outside the carbon-intensive confines of mainstream educational practices.

As part of this class, students develop a field research project on topics such as urban environmental justice, the Clean Water Act, and political organizing around environmental issues, race relations or social justice. They explore the history, literature, food, music and culture of the American heartland. As one student said, “I have never wanted to learn so much more about everything.”

Creator of all, open our ears to your creative, reconciling and sustaining Word that call us through the book of Scripture and the book of creation. Bless us once again with your life-giving waters.

From The Liturgy Committee

Interfaith Power & Light New Mexico & El Paso and Sisters of Mercy of the Americas are co-sponsoring an immersion retreat through some areas of New Mexico to bear witness to the damage #extractivism has inflicted on the people and the land of New Mexico. The retreat started on September 17. To follow their experiences, you may connect via @mercysisters on Instagram and Threads, or on Facebook at Sisters of Mercy of the Americas.
