Live Look From Israel
Maccabiah Daily Update: July 19, 2026

As our Israel Connect journey came to a close, the final day of Maccabiah programming offered an opportunity to reflect on everything this experience has represented. Sunday's activities represented our hope to make a positive impact, remember tragedy, and come together as one Jewish community. From our Lev L'Lev initiative helping Israeli farmers feed those less fortunate, to visiting the Nova Musical Festival site and T'kuma, to celebrating a meaningful B'nai Mitzvah ceremony, the day highlighted the resilience, unity, and responsibility that have been woven throughout our time in Israel.

As we close this incredible journey, thank you to our athletes, coaches, volunteers, professionals, families, supporters, partners, and everyone who helped make the 2026 Maccabiah an unforgettable experience. Your passion, commitment, and spirit brought this delegation to life, and we are proud to have shared this journey together.

Lev L'Lev Community Service Initiative

As part of the final day of Maccabiah programming, our delegation came together for the Lev L’Lev (Heart to Heart) community service initiative, giving athletes the opportunity to support Israeli communities through hands-on agricultural work in communities most impacted by October 7. The initiative was facilitated by our partners at Leket Israel, the National Food Bank and the leading food rescue organization in Israel. Our delegation members worked alongside local farmers, helping contribute to the ongoing efforts to strengthen and rebuild communities while gaining a deeper appreciation for the connection between the land and the people of Israel.

The experience embodied the values at the heart of the Maccabiah: service, responsibility, and connection. Through Lev L’Lev, our athletes saw firsthand the impact of coming together to give back and make a meaningful difference during their time in Israel.

Visiting the Nova Site and T'kuma

Our delegation visited the Nova Music Festival Memorial, where athletes had the opportunity to learn about the events of October 7 through the stories of those who were there. As they walked the grounds, they encountered personal memorials filled with photos, messages, flowers, and belongings left in memory of the 411 murdered in relation to the festival and the 43 who were taken hostage. The site serves as both a place of mourning and a tribute to the vibrant lives, friendships, and dreams that were tragically cut short.

The visit was an emotional and deeply meaningful experience, offering time for reflection, remembrance, and solidarity. Afterward, the delegation continued to T'kuma, where they viewed the preserved vehicles recovered from the attacks, adding further context to the events of that day and reinforcing the importance of remembering those affected.

Phyllis Magerman B'nai Mitzvah Ceremony

Our final time together as one delegation came delegation at the Phyllis Magerman B'nai Mitzvah Ceremony at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Here, we celebrated athletes who had not yet had the opportunity to become a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, along with those who wanted to become b'nai mitzvah again in the Holy Land, marking an important milestone in their Jewish journeys while surrounded by teammates, coaches, and friends.

The ceremony reflected the spirit of the Maccabiah by bringing together Jewish athletes from across the country to celebrate tradition, community, and identity. It was a powerful reminder that this experience has been about far more than competition; it has been about strengthening our connection to one another, to our heritage, and to Israel.

Delegation Celebration and World Cup Watch Party

The evening concluded with one final opportunity for the delegation to celebrate together at a delegation-wide party following the Phyllis Magerman B'nai Mitzvah Ceremony. Athletes, coaches, volunteers, and supporters filled the grounds with music, dancing, and laughter as they reflected on the friendships and memories made throughout the Maccabiah and Israel Connect experience.

As the celebration continued, everyone gathered to watch the World Cup Final together, bringing one last shared sports moment to an unforgettable summer. It was the perfect way to close out weeks of competition, service, learning, and connection before returning home with memories that will last a lifetime.
