  • For students with dietary restrictions, going from eating at Ohio University’s dining halls to receiving meals in the university’s quarantine and isolation dorms can be another set of hoops to jump through. Students who have dietary restrictions, either by choice or due to health reasons, are supposed to inform OU’s culinary staff of their restrictions when in quarantine or isolation. However, some students who are vegan or vegetarian in those dorms reported difficulty securing adequate meals, or that OU’s meals were lacking in nutrition. • As the process of drawing new state legislative maps continues in Ohio, a slew of groups in Ohio filed objections to the revised maps adopted by the Ohio Redistricting Commission. Those who objected said the new maps are unconstitutional for favoring Republicans and not meeting the proportionality standard set by the Ohio Constitution. The new maps favor Republicans 57-42  in the Ohio House and 20-13 in the Senate. The objections say there are more “toss-up” Democratic districts, meaning those margins could more widely favor Republicans. To hear what State Rep. Jay Edwards, R-Nelsonville, said about the maps and more about the objections, click here to read the full story.
  • The snow days we all remember from our childhood might soon become a relic of the past. The introduction of Zoom and other virtual learning options has some local school districts deciding if snow days should mean no school at all or simply a switch to e-learning. Opinion columnist Charlene Pepiot argues snow days need to remain how they always have been: a day off from learning. The quality of broadband in addition to that of e-learning overall makes the move to virtual learning on snow days questionable, Charlene argues. • Ohio’s trip to DeKalb on Sunday fared no better than its first. The Bobcats were outplayed by the Huskies, falling 80-70. With this loss, Ohio is now seventh in the Mid-American Conference standings. Ohio was crippled by not having two of its starters due to COVID-19 protocols, and two additional players fouled out in the fourth quarter, leaving the Bobcats with only five players for the rest of the game.
