Cambridge Launches Safety Improvement Project on Cambridge Street

The City of Cambridge plans to install separated bike lanes and make safety improvements on Cambridge Street between Inman Square and Second Street in 2024. The project will add curbside bike lanes separated by flex posts, shorten crossing distances, reconstruct curb ramps, accommodate outdoor dining, improve bus service, reduce parking to one side, and identify new parking/loading locations. Initial outreach events include an in-person open house on 11/29 at the Valente Library, another on 12/2 at Millers River Apartments, and a virtual meeting on 12/12. These are the first of several community engagement opportunities to provide input on goals and pre-design. More events will come in 2024 to review draft plans.

Public Health Encourages Vaccines before the Holidays

As the weather gets colder and with holidays just around the corner, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Cambridge Public Health Department urge residents to get vaccinated. DPH recommends everyone 6 months and older get a seasonal flu vaccine and an updated COVID-19 vaccine. Both vaccines can take up to two weeks to take full effect to protect against infection, serious illness and hospitalization, and reduce the chances of suffering the effects of Long COVID. The updated COVID-19 vaccine is effective against current variants and widely available for little or no cost to Massachusetts residents.
