Daily Devotional Podcast

You may join me for a part of my own daily devotionals by sharing in the podcast below.  It runs about 15 or so minutes.

Daily Update

I was able to connect with Susan Bales today.  She is now at Odd Fellows Home, recovering from a back injury. She is in room 114 there (and can receive cards) after a spell in Sarah Bush Hospital.  Susan would also welcome calls at her cell phone there, 259-7230.

Bev Dennis reports that our congregation has now given over $1000 for the United Methodist Women's Day of Prayer and Self-denial.  It is a record for this offering.

Please continue to remember your tithes and offerings to the church.  Even though we are not literally passing the offering plate, we are continuing to worship God, care for one another, and support missional projects around our conference, country, and world.

Dora will be sending out first quarter giving reports this week.  One thing that is available to our members is the opportunity to make offerings electronically.  It is a simply thing to do.  Just call Dora at the church office, 235-5676, and she will help you set it up.

Please remember that we are prohibited from having regular office hours at the church.  But we are in and out frequently, answering messages, and getting all the work done that is possible.  So, if you call and no one is there to answer the phone, please leave a message and we will get back to you.

In addition to our regular Sunday video worship services, I will be continuing my series on books of the Bible. That series will be done by podcast and not interfere with the regular Sunday worship service.  This week's book is First Timothy.  I will give you the link in the Friday update if you would like to continue working your way through the Bible with me.

The preacher this week for our regular Sunday video will be Jie Wu.

Life Goes On

Today, April 14, is Dolphin Day.  We don't have many of those here in Central Illinois, but I hear that there are over 40 species of this friendly and energetic animal. We can learn more about how to be fully human from these social and gregarious creatures.

It is also Be Kind to Lawyers Day.  Unlike dolphins, we do have quite a few lawyers in Central Illinois.  There are probably about 40 different kinds of lawyers, and while they may not be as friendly and gregarious as dolphins, we do appreciate the work they do...when they are on our side...and effective for us.

It is also Equal Pay Day and Look Up at the Sky Day. My daughter Mindy is always looking at the sky and calling me or sending me photos of its beauty.  There almost always something great up there...day or night.

As for equal pay, nothing is more American than the idea of fairness: not gender, race, or anything.  But rather than give the idea just a day, let's give it incarnation:  that's what Christians do.
