The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
– Psalm 27:1-2
Dear Church,
What are you doing these days to give you a sense of normalcy? With our routines disrupted, it's very hard to adjust ourselves to this new normal. Certain practices anchor us. For me it's been taking walks, daily Bible reading, and, of course, cooking!
Many have expressed that our Sunday worship gatherings, even through the virtual format, has been such a comfort and encouragement. Our worship together, centered around God's Word, remains one constant in a very un-constant world. Have you noticed that the things we sing, say, and pray together take on new and deeper meaning in light of a global crisis? I certainly have.
One thing I've believed for a long time is that our rituals, routines, and practices shape our hearts.
It's one thing to say "The Lord is the stronghold of my life" in time of peace. Another proposition altogether in the age of Coronavirus. If we have practiced our faith by saying God's words of truth in times of ease, we will be ready when chaos comes.
As we ride the waves of anxieties, let's continue to lean into worship and scripture together. Familiar words of scripture and our common liturgy anchors our souls to our unchanging God.
