Read Psalm 77

Will the Lord spurn forever,
  and never again be favorable?
Has his steadfast love forever ceased?
Are his promises at an end for all time?
Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Has he in anger shut up his compassion?

- Psalm 77:7-9
The Psalms remind us that it is okay to ask questions and give us a way to express our doubts and fears to God. Psalm 77 is written from a place of uncertainty, "In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord" (v2). But the Psalmist does not stay in fear. The next verses turn towards faith and hope because of God's character.
Then I said, “I will appeal to this,
to the years of the right hand of the Most High.”
I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will remember your wonders of old.
I will ponder all your work,
and meditate on your mighty deeds.

- Psalm 77:10-12

It is natural for us to fear. People are anxious and fearing all around us. But we have a certain hope that God is calling on us to share with a fearful world. The antidote to fear is remembering God's goodness. Perfect love casts out fear. (1 John 4:18)

How We Can Help Others - The Deacon's Fund
Perfect Love Casts Out Fear.

As anxiety, fear, and tangible needs in our communities increase during this time of uncertainty, the Board of Deacons is encouraging our congregation to notice our neighbors that need to be served and seen through acts of mercy and love.

To that end we're generating a new request form for TCC members and attenders to request funds from the Deacon's Fund to be gifted in personal and creative ways. What that look like?

  • A friend is a waiter and, because of the Coronavirus shut down, is struggling to pay his bills. You want to offer him a Stop and Shop gift card to lighten the load this month.
  • You notice a young mother at Mom to Mom who seems to be on her own. You want to bring her some flowers and a Einstein Bros. gift card to show her she is seen.
  • A family in your neighborhood has experienced a loss. You know the children are often in the yard and would enjoy a new outdoor game to play.
  • Someone you know from work has just had to put her father in a nursing home. You think she would enjoy a chance to talk about it over breakfast, your treat

Gifts should range from $20-100 and be requested by a TCC member. If you are able, contributing some of your own money will make this fund last longer and impact more people. Requests will be sent to the Deacon's for approval.

May God continue to lead us in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
