Make Sure to Walk Every Day!

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

Micah 6:8 NIV

At the beginning of the year, one of the goals I made for myself was to walk every day, whether it was taking the dog out multiple times a day or finding time during my lunch break. I just wanted to be more active throughout my day and lose some weight. The first day of the year I was on it, getting in an hour’s walk with my dog and feeling great. Day two came and I didn’t get a walk in! Already falling short of a goal in 2025.

I think this goes to show that just because we make goals or aspire to achieve something, we must be disciplined in the steps to get there. Now, mine were literal steps that I didn’t take and I’m sure I made some type of excuse of being too tired or just not having time to do it that day when I just needed to do it. The good thing is I just didn’t quit or give up but made sure I got in my walk the next day.

As I was thinking about what to write for this Daily Word meditation, the verse Micah 6:8 just started popping up in conversations, readings, and some podcasts. And all I could think about was the way my year started with walking and how a lot of us walk with the Lord. We make all these goals to grow closer to Him, be a better follower of Christ and on day one, we succeed. We read the Bible, we pray all throughout the day and we feel great. Day two comes and we forget or make excuses. For others, they do great in the first half of the year, but then life gets busy and they start putting their priorities on other things and aren’t walking with God daily. We are human and are going to fail.

Thankfully, when we fail, make excuses or don’t make it a priority, God is just waiting for us to start again: To wake up and take a step with Him. To humble ourselves and choose Christ over our selfish ways. To walk with Him. Which is reading the Bible, praying, worshiping, prioritizing Him and building a relationship with Him.

Are you walking with Him? What’s keeping you from starting? Take that step today and walk with the Lord every day.
