The Spirit’s Workplace
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God...and heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ
We are fast approaching the Day of Pentecost, when we remember how the Holy Spirit descended on the followers of Jesus after His resurrection. Those who witnessed it
and there were many, for the day was an important day for all the Jews and many had gathered in Jerusalem from all over
said it seemed as though tongues of flame descended upon the followers, enabling them to speak in various languages about the wonders of God in His Son, the risen Christ.
We call this occasion the birthday of the Church because it is the day when Jesus’ followers were given the Holy Spirit to empower them in the work of witnessing to all the world.
The Holy Spirit was not finished with one remarkable deed of tongues of fire. The work continued. In his letter to the Christians in Rome, Paul says, “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God...and heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ.” The Holy Spirit continues to make us children of God as He empowers us to follow Jesus, even today.
So we offer our praise for the work of the Holy Spirit, both then and now: “All praise to the Father, from whom all things come; and all praise to Christ Jesus, his only Son; and all praise to the Spirit, who makes us one.”
All praise to the Spirit, who makes us one.
