Praise the Lord!

“Praise the Lord, O my soul.

I will praise the Lord all my life;

I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.”

Psalm 146:1-2, NIV

In a world that seemingly feels more and more unsteady — where leaders rise and fall, plans crumble and uncertainty looms — Psalm 146 invites us to lift our eyes higher. The psalmist begins with a joyful declaration: our praise to God is not fleeting but lifelong. It flows from a heart that has learned a vital truth: Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day, their plans come to nothing (vv. 3-4).

How often do we place our hope in people, power, positions, money, or circumstances? Time and again, they promise security but deliver disappointment. Yet, verse 5 shines like a beacon: Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God. This is not a flimsy wish — it is an anchored hope.

Why can we hope so confidently? Because our God is the Maker of heaven and Earth, the sea and everything in them — the Creator who holds all things together (v. 6). He remains faithful forever. He upholds the oppressed, gives food to the hungry, sets prisoners free, gives sight to the blind, lifts up those who are bowed down, loves the righteous, watches over the foreigner, and sustains the fatherless and the widow (vv. 7-9). The Lord reigns eternally; human plans fade, but His kingdom endures from generation to generation.

Today, whatever weighs on your heart — fear of the future, financial insecurity, a broken relationship, death of a loved one, health struggles, or worldly unrest — release it into the hands of the faithful One. Human help is temporary. God’s help is eternal. His presence is promised. He sees you. He sustains you. He will never fail you. His love endures forever.

A Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that my hope is not in earthly things but in You, the unchanging Creator and Redeemer of the world. When I am tempted to trust in people or plans that cannot save, draw my eyes back to Your truth and faithfulness. Fill my heart with a praise that lasts. Lift me up, sustain me, and let Your eternal reign bring peace to my heart and to my soul. You are my help today, tomorrow and forever. Amen.
