Who’s in Charge?
"The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed, he is girded with strength. Yea, the world is established; it shall never be moved; thy throne is established from of old; thou art from everlasting."
I love to read the Psalms, as they have a way of stopping me in my proverbial tracks. What I mean is, the Psalms make me stop and think, and they invite me to put my life in perspective, namely
Often in the journey of life, I find that I need to “hit the pause button” and remember that God is in charge. He is in charge of everything. It’s a relief to me when I remember to take the time to recognize that He is in charge of and caring for the universe and everything therein. As a “type A,” “get ‘er done,” “can do,” sometimes control-freak sort of guy, I need to be reminded that, as the Rev Dr. Will Spong used to say, “God is God and you are not.” To put it another way, God was running the universe before I arrived and He will be running it after I am gone.
So, what’s my/our role? To pray. To listen. To serve. To love. And to forgive just as we have been forgiven.
A prayer for today
Dear heavenly Father, help me to seek always your will for my life, every minute, every hour, every day. And when I stray from your plan for me, gently remind me that you are the One in charge from everlasting. Amen
The Rev. Robert E. Wareing
