21 Children

Guests ranged in age from 6 months to 54 years old

A lot of people talk about the "Luck of the Irish" in March. We know that the luck is all ours, this month and every month, to have such amazingly dedicated supporters like YOU!

Take a look at what you made possible this month:

Daisy got a new job!

We are very proud of Daisy, who is a guest at Evelyn's Place. She is working very hard in the S4 Program, and recently reached a major milestone when she earned a job at the Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michaels. Daisy is taking everything she is learning here to heart, and she is well on her way to achieving Success in the form of lasting self-sufficiency!

Russ and Felix on the Playground!

Guests Russ and Felix spent Wednesday at the Talbot Bible Church in Cordova with Trustee Kenny Tindall, putting mulch down for their children's playground. They put in a hard day's work, and are happy to know that they were able to help give the children at the church somewhere to play safely!

This would not be possible without YOU! You are life-changers!!

Money Management with Case Manager DeWayne continues at Evelyn's Place! The single men and women participating in the class are very grateful to be learning about this particular subject matter. They tell us how eye-opening the sessions have been, and that budgeting is now a priority as they move forward in the S4 Program.

At Easton's Promise, our moms and dads are continuing to participate in our Parenting Workshop, hosted by the Department of Social Services, as well as Character Counts for Adults, led by our Board Member, Sandra Rowland-Hack.

Life skills classes are a very important component of the S4 Program (Shelter, Stability, Support, Success), as they give guests the knowledge and tools they need to successfully maintain self-sufficiency once they leave the program.

You make these learning opportunities possible for our guests! Thank you!

We have a shelter van, which is used to provide transportation to our guests for:

Meetings with service providers

Medical, dental, and mental health appointments

Taking children to childcare facilities

Moving from the shelter to transitional housing

Grocery shopping

...and more!

Our current van, which was donated to us several years ago by wonderful TIS supporters, is now on its last legs, and we are in need of a replacement very soon.

If you or someone you know is able to donate or give a discounted price on a van to provide transportation for our guests, please contact Executive Director Julie Lowe at 410-310-2316 or [email protected].

Thank you in advance!!

Spotlight on Team TIS!

Team TIS has had a very busy month! We, of course, saw many of the wonderful volunteers who provide dinner and supervision at our shelters every day; several amazing supporters delivered donations of beautiful flowers and items from our wish list; we participated in the Easton St. Patrick's Day Parade; our Lip Sync Battle teams have been working hard for your votes; and we hosted our volunteer team leaders for a luncheon! Take a look at some of the Team TIS March highlights.

Spotlight on Team TIS!

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to each and every donor, volunteer, and cheerleader... You make it possible to fulfill our mission!

Meet our new Volunteer Coordinator!

We are pleased to introduce you to Nancy Cummings, who has recently joined us part-time as a Volunteer Coordinator. She comes to us from our longtime partners at Temple B'nai Israel, where she worked for ten years as the Administrative Assistant for Rabbi Hyman.

Originally from Western Pennsylvania, Nancy spent many years in DC as a nurse and then in medical device sales before making a home on the Eastern Shore.

Nancy was drawn to apply for the Volunteer Coordinator role because she was a volunteer early in TIS' history, when we were a cold weather shelter rotating between faith communities. She remembers seeing the dedication and compassion shown to our homeless neighbors during that time, and wants to use her skills to facilitate a positive impact on the volunteer program.

Nancy's duties include getting our new volunteer software up and running and identifying new groups of volunteers, from houses of worship, local businesses, and beyond.

When asked what inspires her about working for Talbot Interfaith Shelter, she replied, "The knowledge that in my own small way, I am making a positive impact on our most vulnerable population. TIS is giving hope, dignity, and opportunity to people just like you and me, and 'we' are doing 'it' with grace and compassion."

Nancy recently had the opportunity to meet with many of our volunteer team leaders during a luncheon at the Tidewater Inn. They had a wonderful discussion and the team leaders provided lots of feedback, which Nancy is taking to heart as she and TIS leadership work together on a plan to revitalize our volunteer program. We are so happy to have her on Team TIS!

Easter Request

There are currently 21 children in our shelters and apartments, ranging in age from 6 months to 14 years old. We are hoping to provide each child with an Easter Basket next week.

We are just four weeks away from the most joyous night of the year! Have you reserved your tickets to join us at the Waterfowl Building on April 29th at 7 pm? Our tables are now sold out, but plenty of General Admission tickets remain! You also have the opportunity to purchase tickets so that the guests in the S4 Program can attend the event. Buy your tickets below or come visit us at the Easton Farmer's Market on April 22nd to snag your seat!

Our teams are already working hard to earn your votes and be crowned this year's Lip Sync Champions. We have more contestants than ever before this year, competing across three different categories. We are thrilled to introduce you to three more of our teams today!

There are a number of friendly sub-competitions happening in this year's Lip Sync Battle. Two such teams are the wonderful women of the local chapters of the Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta sororities. They will be going head-to-head in our Live Performance competition on April 29th.

We are also very excited for you to meet Team TIS, comprised of several members of our staff and Board of Directors (plus a very cute special guest star). We are competing in the Live Show Video division this year, and wanted to show our community that if you fall on hard times, you've always got a friend at Talbot Interfaith Shelter.

Watch the videos below to meet these teams, then click the button to buy tickets, see all of our teams, and vote for your favorite!
