Spotlight of the Week

On Wednesday, Ms. Jepson’s 8th grade class worked in groups to solve a murder mystery activity. Students solved several problems around the classroom related to simplifying expressions using the distributive property, and by combining like terms. Each question gave students a clue about the murder, which allowed them to solve the mystery!
Fifth grade students in Mrs. Kaskons' Social Emotional Learning class discovered the power of their words with a fun activity this week. Students were challenged to squeeze all the toothpaste from a tube before learning their second task: to put the toothpaste back in! Through a following story and discussion, the class concluded that much like how it's impossible to put all the toothpaste back in the tube, it is impossible to retract their words and actions. Fifth graders agreed that because their words and actions have power, it's important to use them carefully, and they were able to describe connections between the story, the activity, and their ongoing lessons on respect, kindness, and relationships. Fantastic job, fifth grade!
Thanks to Donors Choose grant, the Computer Applications in Allied Arts class now has these amazing and inspiring books on the importance of technology in our world! Our technology library is growing daily!
Did you know that barn owls are unable to digest the fur and bone of their prey, which they usually swallow whole? The indigestible parts are regurgitated (coughed up through the beak) in the form of an owl pellet!
Last week, the environmental and garden club dissected barn owl pellets and identified the bones found! Students also worked in teams to create scarecrows to place in our Daley School garden.
Still have not registered for an after-school club? Some clubs still have open slots! Click here to register today!
