College Pathways Camp: Orlando Florida

Our Excellence players, Amy and Vance, were selected to participate in this year’s College Pathways Camp, hosted by the USTA Foundation at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.

Throughout the camp, they gained valuable insight into all aspects of college tennis, from learning how to communicate with coaches during the recruiting process to understanding scoring formats, building team chemistry, and creating their own college recruiting videos.

This experience gave Amy and Vance a firsthand look at what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and provided them with tools to navigate their next steps as student-athletes. We’re proud of their hard work and excited to see where their journey takes them next!

DTEA Player Spotlight: Meet Ahmed

"I’ve loved playing at DTEA because it truly supports everyone, from beginners to highly skilled players, and creates an environment where you can grow at your own pace. If I had a walk-out song, it would definitely be “Unstoppable” by Sia, because it captures how I want to feel on court. My tennis role model is Carlos Alcaraz, mainly because of his mental toughness and the way he handles pressure. What first brought me to DTEA was Coach Craig’s training methodology, it immediately drew me in and made me excited to join the program."

-Ahmed, 8th Grade

Celebrating Our Scholarship Recipients

We are proud to congratulate Julian Williams and Luis Garcia on receiving the Cleveland Gilcrest College Scholarship, earning $2,500 each to support their academic and athletic journeys. Both students are now in their freshman year, Julian competing on the women’s tennis team at Clark Atlanta University, and Luis representing on the club team at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Their dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence embody everything DTEA stands for. This achievement is incredibly well deserved, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what their futures hold.

Congratulations, Julian and Luis! We’re cheering you on every step of the way.

Welcome Our New Adaptive Lead: Erica Goodman

Erica is thrilled to take on the role of Coordinator for Adaptive Tennis at the DTA. With a lifelong passion for working with individuals with disabilities, Erica knew by high school that this would be her chosen career path. Holding an undergraduate degree in Physical Education and dual master’s degrees in Special Education, Erica taught Adaptive Physical Education in NYC public schools for eight years before relocating to Dallas in 2017 with their spouse and two sons.

In the fall of 2022, Erica began volunteering with the DTA adaptive program and has continued weekly ever since. Looking ahead to 2026, her first goal is to help build a broader volunteer database in order to grow the program to reach more players in need.
