WELCOME! to the first issue of the Dalton Gardens e-newsletter. We are excited to have this electronic option of keeping residents informed and foster a closer relationship with City Hall. We also are excited to welcome our new City Clerk, Cassandra McFarland; and Jill Ainsworth, our new Planner and Code Compliance Officer. We look forward to getting together for the upcoming City Picnic in September when we will have the opportunity to eat good food, listen to good music, gather for good conversations, and have a good time getting to know each other better. Watch for the postcard in your mailbox and go to the City website for Picnic updates. Until then, enjoy this first newsletter and have a wonderful summer!

A Message From the Mayor

My wife and I purchased property in Dalton Gardens 40 years ago with the intention of eventually living here. When that opportunity finally arrived, we decided we would attend City meetings as much as possible. Neither of us has ever done anything like this before, but we wanted to get involved because we recognized a place like this needs residents involved and vigilant to keep it uniquely special. We realized early on that the America we both love is right here in Idaho; we need to do our part to preserve her ideals. It just takes ordinary citizens, like you and me, to make a positive impact. I am honored to serve this City. I feel the weight of responsibility to ensure clear checks and balances to protect this haven we call home. As we face the future where things both change and stay the same, I look forward to walking the road into tomorrow together.

Council Updates

FACILITIES & SECURITY

This year has been all about protection. We have been able to install a new roof at city hall, allowing for unexpected repairs for better weatherproofing and structural soundness. A monitored fire alarm and burglary alarm system, along with a keyless code entry system at city hall have been completed and add substantial protection to our facilities..

ROADS

We've been able to piggyback our road work with the City of Hayden, resulting in a substantial cost savings to us. On the road maintenance rotation, chip sealing took place on Davenport Street and Hanley Avenue. There is some roadwork that needs to be done on Davenport due to tree roots, otherwise I am very pleased with the work that was done.

BUDGET AND FINANCE

We are working closely with the treasurer to ensure the budget meets the City's needs. We are also doing a system review of Laserfiche (a document management system) to ensure the City of Dalton Gardens takes full advantage of this platform to digitize the City's important papers and history--to use available technology for more efficient record-keeping.

PARKS

At the arena we have removed the dead trees and ladder fuel in the forested area, it was also thinned to promote a healthy forest. Electrical upgrades at the arena have been completed, which include replacing some old outside lights on the tower and adding some new lights on the restrooms. Drive by and take a look at the new arena rock sign.
