DAMIEN HIGH SCHOOL | OCTOBER 2019

ALUMNI NEWSLETTER
DEAR FELLOW ALUMNI
Given the many ways I engage with alumni,
I am mindful of the memories that connect you to Damien, as well as the distance at which most of you live from campus.

I also know your extraordinary loyalty, thoughtfulness, and interest with the community here. So I wanted to take some time, in the midst of the fall splendor, to give you my sense of where we are and where we
are going.

As we began our 60th Anniversary year (1959-1967 Pomona Catholic & 1967-Present Damien) we started the new school year with an alumni golf event at Sierra Lakes Golf course with about 40 alums ranging from 1972 – 1999. What a day of stories, laughter, memories. We continued with our alumni socials the last Thursday of every month as well as our pre-game football gatherings. We are looking to grow our events into basketball and baseball seasons as well. Also, we are searching for additional ideas that we could help our brotherhood reconnect and have a reason to gather.

Our 60th year brings a special feeling to homecoming this year. Homecoming will take place October 11 vs. Chino Hills.
A pregame event will be hosted by the Alumni Office for the
Tri-School Community and all years are welcome. The classes of ’69, ’79, ’89, ’99, & ’09 will be recognized. Food, drinks, DJ, and a ticket to the game will be provided. It will be from 4pm – 6:30pm in the senior parking lot across from the entrance to Dick Larson Stadium. If you should have any questions or would like to RSVP for the event please contact me directly.

The new school year is off to a great start and I look forward to continuing to grow our Damien Community. Please never hesitate to reach out directly with any questions, concerns, or ideas. I highly encourage each one of you to reengage, get involved and
continue to make Damien such a special place.

We'll Return Again!

LEGENDARY DAMIEN HEAD FOOTBALL COACH DICK LARSON PASSES AWAY
The Damien Family is sad to share that legendary football coach Dick Larson passed away on Sunday, September 1. He was surrounded by family and loved ones. Rest In peace coach, we know you are already on the sidelines in heaven.

Dick Larson roamed the sidelines and brought two CIF championships to the school during his 23-year tenure. He recorded 174 victories, had 80 of his players compete at Division I schools and 15 went on to play professional football.

He is well known around Damien for coining the phrase, “Faith, Family, Football”, which is still
used today for Damien Football.

The family has asked for those wishing to honor Coach, to please contribute to the Richard L Larson Scholarship Fund: On the form, please check the box “I would like to dedicate this donation” and type in Dick Larson.
