The Dan Beard Council will honor the 2016 Class of Eagle Scouts in front of families and friends at a very special commemorative event on February 11, 2017. Over 300 proud Eagle Scouts earned the Eagle rank in 2016. Each Eagle Scout in attendance will be individually honored by Council CEO, Tom Dugger and local dignitaries. The event is free to attend for Eagle Scouts and their families, and each Eagle Scout in attendance also receives commemorative items thanks to the special contributions of many local supporters. Members of the community and local Scouters will gather on March 22, 2017 at the largest local fundraiser for local Scout youth. It is the pinnacle of the Friends of Scouting Campaign where 1,000’s of local volunteers efforts help to raise dollars to support local youth Scouting programs. The Good Scout Award Luncheon will also honor Bank of America Merrill Lynch with the Good Scout Award for its community efforts in supporting local youth. Scout Advancement Updates
The National Council recently released an update to Cub Scout Advancements effective immediately.  These modifications are in response to feedback about the new Cub Scout program.

In addition, a reminder to all Boy Scout units that the transition period for the new Boy Scout Advancements has now ended.  As of January 1, 2017, all Boy Scouts  should be using the new Boy Scout advancement requirements.
Wood Badge Dinner - 02/26/17
Interested in Wood Badge, NYLT, or further developing leadership in your unit?  You’re invited to our Annual Wood Badge Dinner on Saturday, February 26th at the Camp Friedlander Dining Hall.  Spouses, significant others and family members are welcome (and encouraged) to attend.  A evening offers delicious dinner, a chance to learn about leadership programs, and to unite with past Wood Badge friends and meet new ones.  Register at

The Camp Card Sale has been designed to help Scouts earn their way to summer camp! The Camp Card is a “discount card” that offers deals at area businesses to the purchaser. The purchase price of a Camp Card is $10.00, and participating Scouts will earn 50% for each card they sell!

Camp Cleanup Days are an great way for boys to earn service hours while working to conserve our camp properties. Only through continued service can we ensure that the beautiful and natural areas of the Dan Beard Scout Reservation are preserved for future youth. Groups that participate learn about lake ecosystems and help create a healthy environment for the plants and animals that share our camps.

2017 Scout Shabbat   
A Scout is reverent. The Jewish people celebrate Shabbat (the Sabbath) from sundown on Friday night to sundown on Saturday night. Please join us for a very special Scout Shabbat sponsored by the Dan Beard Council Jewish Committee on Scouting at Congregation Beth Adam. All are welcome to attend. Scouts and Leaders, please come in Class A uniforms. We look forward to celebrating Shabbat with you!

2017 College of Commissioner Science - 03/18/2017
The College of Commissioner Science will provide the supplemental training to aid the commissioners in providing outstanding unit service.  It is recognized that commissioners are key to the continued health and growth of the units in the council.

Congratulations to the William Henry Harrison District on winning the “JTE Cup”. This traveling trophy is awarded to the district that has earned gold status and has the highest score among the council’s eight districts. William Henry Harrison earned a special distinction by being gold for ten consecutive months in 2016.
