Units, Spring Recruitment Season is Here!
As COVID restrictions lesson, many Packs and Troops are inviting more families to join their ranks. Arrow of Light crossovers, as well as new recruits from school last Fall, were significantly down. Work with your unit's leadership to prepare for a time that they will be able to welcome new Scouts.
  • Connect with your District Executive for materials to help you promote your event (flyers, Peachjar distributions, social media templates for sharing, etc). Promote at your schools, churches, charter organization, community/neighborhood groups, etc. along with a 'Bring a Friend' challenge with your current Scouts.
Cub Scout Packs: Target Kindergarten/1st graders for your promotional audience and/or for dens with less than 5 members.

Some Ideas for your event:
  • Fishing Derby
  • Hiking at a local park
  • Scavenger hunt

Start to Prepare for Fall Recruitment!
  • Identify/recruit New Member Coordinator: main contact for Join Scout Night efforts.
  • Developing/strengthen relationships with schools where you recruit. Cub Scout parents/leaders will have significantly more access to schools than the District Executive staff. This is vitally important as we move into Join Scout Night season when school returns in August/September.
Scouts BSA Troops: Target 5th & 6th graders for your promotional audience!

Arrow of Light Scouts have started transitioning to Troops. Make sure you are able to make as smooth a transition for these young Scouts and their parents as possible. And don't forget to turn in those 'transfer' applications!

Here are some ideas for your event:
Open House at Troop meeting or campout with:
  • Dutch oven cooking demo
  • Rocket launch
  • Orienteering or Geocaching

SCOUTING SAFELY
Youth Protection Training Must Remain Up-To-Date!

The safety of our Scouts is our most important priority. Youth Protection Training is required to be renewed every 2 years determined by the date it was taken, not by the recharter date. Volunteers and units should be aware
of Youth Protection Training expiration dates,
and make it a priority to renew training before expiration. An adult with expired youth protection is not a qualified Scout supervision and does not count towards 2-deep leadership.

Detailed instructions on how to run a Youth Protection Training Report for your unit can be found here

Volunteers, Access Youth Protection Training here.
