Everything you need to know about becoming a Merit Badge Counselor

We recently completed a refresh of the Merit Badge counselor process including becoming a counselor or adding or removing badges. We did this to simplify this process for users and because Doubleknot was sunsetted on 12/31/2015 and we needed a user-friendly database.

A Community-Wide Good Turn
In Scouting, we take the Scout Slogan seriously. Helping others is in our DNA. For the people at Soles4Souls, they have come up with a unique way of helping those less fortunate. Soles4Souls is a not-for-profit global organization committed to fighting poverty through the collection and distribution of shoes.

Most families have lots of “old” shoes. This council-wide campaign asks packs, troops and crews to help in the collection of those shoes. As a part of Scout Sunday on February 11, 2018, units will work with their chartering organization to promote a used shoe drive and then collect the shoes during the services on Scout Sunday. This will be a unique effort to the Greater Cincinnati area.

In 2017, Dan Beard Council units collected over 23,000 pairs of shoes. For 2018, the goal is to increase that success and collect 25,000 pairs of shoes. Donated shoes will then be given to Soles4Souls who will distribute them to those in need. Soles4Souls provides shoes where they are needed – whether that is a third-world nation or a part of the United States that is impacted by a natural disaster.

We encourage your unit to participate in this impactful, unique, council-wide service opportunity! Please talk with your units leaders and consider being a part of our community Good Turn. Then submit your unit’s commitment to Soles4Souls by visiting: and registering using the sign up link.
