Virtual Scouting U was a Success in 2020 – Thank You to All Those Who Attended and Volunteered!

In 2020, the first-ever virtual Scouting U was a success! This exciting training opportunity took place virtually on Saturday, December 5, 2020. Over 170 participants logged on to advance their Scouting knowledge in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

New in 2020, Scouting U integrated the course College of Commissioner’s Science. Seven classes were added to the curriculum totaling 84 training sessions where adult and youth leaders could expand their knowledge and experience of Scouting. A total of 19 NEW Scouting U courses were added this year, which included: Cub Master & Den Leader Jam Session, Intro to Kodiak Challenge, Keeping Older Scouts Involved, Best Practices for Youth Led Virtual Scouting and more.
The highest attended classes were Weekend Wilderness, Planning the Perfect Troop Campout, and Intro to Leadership Skills Training (a youth-only course).

Have Your Heard? There's TWO Major Updates to Cub Camp in 2021!

The Dan Beard Council camping team is so excited to welcome you back to camp in 2021! We are planning a great summer that you will not want to miss. Two major updates have been made to our 2021 season: the addition of a session of Webelos Camp and our switch to a pack-based program for our Adventure Camp Sessions. Save the Date for a Virtual Cub Camp Rally on January 26th!
Cub Camping Rallies are an integral part of the build up to Summer Camp and can help units to prepare for an amazing stay. This year the Dan Beard Council will be offering a virtual rally taking place on January 26, 2021 at 6:30 PM. This will include information about what to expect during your session at camp, program updates, tips and tricks for new units, and so much more!

Visit the Norman Rockwell American Scouting Collection
at the Medici Museum of Art!
The American Scouting Collection, a new exhibition featuring Rockwell originals as well as BSA-themed works by other artists, is now open to visitors at the Medici Museum of Art in Warren, Ohio. The new exhibition marks the first time in history that all 65 of Rockwell’s Scouting paintings have been displayed at the same place and time with a unique app-guided experience that enables visitors to view the collection one painting at a time using your phone and headphones.

Council-coordinated visits are welcome with a few opportunities available including earning a badge and holding an event! Admission is free but donations are encouraged. Masks are mandatory.

Venturing Leadership Award Nominations Due February 12th!

Do you know a registered Scout or Scouter who has made an impact on lives of Scouting youth through service to Venturing? Anyone can nominate any deserving registered Scout or Scouter for the Council Venturing Leadership Award. This prestigious award is for those who show exceptional dedication and give outstanding leadership and service to Venturing and to Venturers in the Dan Beard Council. If you know a registered Scouter who fits that description, nominate them for consideration by February 14, 2020.

Save the Date for Ski Days at Perfect North this Winter!

The Dan Beard Council and Perfect North Slopes are once again partnering for Ski Days. In 2021, Ski Days will be held January 31, 2021 and February 21, 2021. The process for sign up and tickets has been updated this year, so please click here for details.

The Merit Badge Challenge Committee is proud to present a safe and engaging option for Merit Badge Challenge this year. Almost 100 Merit Badge counselors are busy preparing to deliver another opportunity for your Scouts to earn badges for advancement and just for fun. The majority of the program will be delivered in a virtual format, and will be later in the year than normal.

Save the Date: National BSA's "Be The Change!" Event for the Inaugural Class of Female Eagle Scouts on Feb. 21st at 8pm!
National BSA Council invites everyone to join a celebration of service, leadership, and the groundbreaking accomplishments of the first female Eagle Scouts during the upcoming
“Be the Change” event. This event will be broadcast on Facebook Live on February 21, 2021, at 8pm ET.

Spring Fundraising Information Learning Session

Join us to learn about several ways you can help to fund your unit during a Spring Fundraising Information learning session via Zoom on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 7pm. We’ll share information about several potential options, including Camp Cards, to help your unit earn some funds for your Scouts to enjoy upcoming outdoor activities in the Spring and Summer.

Reminder to take your Youth Protection Training Before March 1, 2021!
Every adult Scouter must take the Youth Protection Training every two years. If your training is expired, or will expire before March 1, 2021, you should update it now. 

Scouters who do not have a current Youth Protection Training will not be able to recharter. You can renew your Youth Protection Training at

In Fall 2021, Dan Beard Council will pivot our annual Good Turn Project to meet the needs of our communities in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. We are partnering with Freestore Foodbank to stock their shelves & make a difference to those in need during the winter months.

Wood Badge is the ultimate leadership training program for the adult leaders of the BSA. It is a modern format of training that delivers the latest in 12 leadership skills that will help you be the best leader possible. The Wood Badge Dinner has been postponed. Check the website for updates.
