President Grace Regan P'12
announced today that
, Vice President for Global Mission and Identity, would be leaving
Boston College High School
after 13 years to assume the role as Head of School at
Cathedral High School
in Boston’s South End. Dan joined BC High in 2007, serving in the Guidance Department for several years before being named Director of International Programs in 2011.
In partnership with
Trustee Dr. Martin J. Dunn, DMD ’53
, he was tapped to lead the first-ever
International Colloquium on Jesuit Secondary Education
in July 2012, drawing hundreds of representatives from the Jesuit network’s 1000 global schools to Boston. During the Colloquium, past
President William Kemeza
joyfully announced the establishment of the
Lawrence H. Hyde ’42 Center for Global Education
. Together, their collective vision brought global education through the Jesuit network to the forefront of the students’ experience at BC High. Since it was founded, the Hyde Center has allowed well over 1000 students, faculty, and staff to explore the world, forming meaningful connections and having life-changing experiences.
“Dan has helped to bring not just global citizenship, but global leadership to BC High,” said President Regan. “Larry Hyde traveled to every country in the United Nations throughout his long and storied life. That same spirit of dedication to growth and learning through travel lives in Dan. We couldn’t have asked for a better person to establish and lead the Hyde Center. Our entire community owes him thanks – not just for bringing the world to BC High, but for bringing us to the world.”
Through the Hyde Center, BC High has positioned itself as one of the preeminent leaders in the Jesuit secondary school network. Dan has forged personal relationships with top Jesuit leaders around the world, including
Reverend Jose Mesa, SJ, International Secretary of Jesuit Education
. His lasting legacy is felt not just at BC High, but throughout the global network. Dan’s successful planning of the ICJSE led to follow-up international gatherings in Manresa, Spain and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The second international colloquium will be held in Indonesia’s cultural capital, the ancient city of Jogjakarta, in July 2020 and continue the tradition of bringing the world together that began in Boston eight years ago.
Chair of the Board of Trustees Kelly Verrochi P'15
expressed thanks, saying, “Dan’s vision in seeing this program from its infancy to its incredible success – with partnerships in 19 countries around the world – has changed the trajectory not only of BC High, but of Jesuit education for decades to come.”
Dan’s gratitude to the community extends well beyond the walls of BC High. He states, “I’ll always be incredibly grateful to the entire BC High community, the worldwide network of Jesuit education and the Hyde family for their leadership, friendship and generosity. Seeing the transformation in BC High students as their global perspective, curiosity and wisdom grew and expanded was more than I ever hoped for when I arrived 13 years ago. I’ll always be indebted to the people who gave me an opportunity to be a small part of a big mission, and will miss the students, families, faculty and staff that make BC High such a remarkable place.”
