A Note from our Executive Director
Dear friend,
“If I can’t dance to it, it’s not my revolution” (Emma Goldman) is one of my favorite quotations. As we strive to accomplish serious things – mitigate the effects of poverty, racism, and trauma – it can be easy to get pulled down by how hard it is.
Let’s face it. Parenting young children is hard. Working with families’ growing needs is hard. Caring for our community is hard. So how do we bring joy to this important work? We’re trying dance.
We’ve begun an exciting partnership with the Santa Barbara Dance Institute to host a Family Fiesta each month. SBDI provides intergenerational dance, IVYP provides dinner and games. Together, we are creating the space for families to play together, dance together, tell stories together and connect. October was our first Family Fiesta, and it was truly a joy for me to dance with our students and their caregivers. I can’t wait for the next one! It’s our hope that by dancing and dining together, we will deepen the connections in our community, and create a little more joy. If you’d like to help underwrite the cost of our Family Fiestas, consider a donation today.
