Detective Leahy's Scam Prevention Class for Seniors

"Here are some pictures of our Scam/Scheme class put on by Detective Patrick Leahy. These two classes were hosted by the housing for the elderly and the Raynham Senior Center. Classes like these help us to prevent our seniors from becoming victims of common scams." As always please reach out to the Police Dept. if you believe you are being scammed or have been the victim of fraud.

Thank you to our officers for striving to keep seniors and the community safe from online scams!

Map of Raynham 1855

Good transportation has always been vital to Raynham’s success. Raynham was founded as an ironwork on the banks of the Two Mile River. The town’s position on the Taunton River allowed for a robust shipbuilding industry to emerge.

The 1840s saw the coming of the railroad. Routes such as the Old Colony Line connected Boston and the Southcoast cities of Fall River and New Bedford, further integrating Raynham into the regional economy.

A tollhouse on Broadway collected a fee from those herding cattle from the Brighton stockyards to areas of Southeastern Massachusetts.

In the present day, roads are the lifeblood that connects Raynham to the rest of the state and points beyond. The town lies at the intersection of Routes 24, 44, 104, 138, and Interstate 495. Route 138, which runs through Raynham from Tiverton, Rhode Island to Milton, Massachusetts, follows the route of the old Taunton Turnpike.

Whether by river, rail, or road, Raynham has always relied on good transportation for its success.

Climate Can Do:

Seasonal Food and Farmers Markets

Going to a farmers market is a wonderful activity to do with family, friends, or alone, and it also helps the planet.

Local and Seasonal Food

Farmers markets sell primarily local food. Vendors travel from their farms to the market. Because the food travels a shorter distance from the farm to the consumer, less gas is burned for transportation. Local produce is seasonal— strawberries in late spring and early summer, peaches and watermelon in the middle of summer, grapes and apples in the fall, squashes in the winter. It is fresh, nutrient rich with more taste. Additionally, smaller farmers are more likely to pay their workers a living wage than huge factory farms.

Avoid Monocrop Farming

Smaller farmers are less likely to use monocropping. Planting a single crop over and over again in the same space harms the soil, requires more pesticides, and adds harmful runoff of chemicals to local water supplies.

Accessibility

Farmers markets increase access to fresh, high quality food in lower income communities. Since farmers who sell at the markets typically travel around to different locations in the surrounding area of their farms, they can provide better, healthier food choices for communities that do not have access to them.

Reduced Plastic Waste

Farmers market products are not typically wrapped in plastic, or pre-cut and packaged, as in grocery stores. This reduces plastic waste.

Raynham Police Dept. Fundraiser

“Yesterday (7/1) some of the members of the Raynham Police Department took part in a fundraiser for Boston Children's hospital. This involved officers from our department being hit with water balloons by those making a donation. This fundraiser raised approximately $887.00! No officers were injured as a result of the water balloon pelting. Nice job by all involved.”
