Dangerous Cold Temperatures and Lake Effect Snow Expected To Impact State Starting Sunday

Governor Kathy Hochul has urged caution and directed state agencies to prepare for a dangerous winter storm system that threatens lake effect snow and cold temperatures statewide next week.

A storm system near Long Island is forecast to bring snow and freezing temperatures Sunday night into Monday morning for the Mid-Hudson, New York City and Long Island regions. In addition, lake effect snow is forecast to develop as early as Sunday night and continue through Wednesday for areas east of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Although the timing, placement and intensity of snow is uncertain, there is the potential for heavy lake effect snow and difficult travel conditions in these areas.

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night, feels-like temperatures of -25 degrees Fahrenheit to 0 degrees Fahrenheit are expected across much of the state. New Yorkers should monitor local weather conditions and take action to prepare for winter weather and freezing cold temperatures.
