Daniel Wilk Focusing Forward In Final Two Bojangles Summer Shootout Races At Charlotte

CONCORD, N.C. - Daniel Wilk is hoping that momentum from his first Legends Car top 10 at the Bojangles' Summer Shootout will push him to his best finish of the summer season during the final two Shootout rounds on Monday and Tuesday night.

Wilk survived a myriad of cautions in a time-certain race during round eight, starting 10th but methodically working his way forward through attrition after he found his way to the bottom of the race track.

Running as high as the top five at one point in the race, Wilk ultimately came home eighth in a race that was shortened from 20 laps to just nine due to the Shootout's time limit rule.

"It was all about missing wrecks that whole race," the 12-year-old explained. "That was honestly how I gained most of my spots. I even had one car fly over the top of me, so it was crazy out there."

"It feels good to finally have a top 10 (at the Shootout). That's something that my dad and I have been working towards ever since we got this car, so that's finally a mark we can check off the list."

Wilk, who sits 11th in division points entering the final week of competition (just eight markers behind the top 10), is gunning for more - including improving on his eighth-place mark before the 10-race series wraps up.
"During the race, I was probably the fastest I've ever been in this car at Charlotte," Wilk added. "We've thrown everything at it to make it better ... including the kitchen sink, so to finally have things going in the right direction is big for our confidence."

"We're hoping to get a top five out of it in the final two races; we feel like that's achievable and we've proven that we can race with some of those guys, so we're looking forward to it."
