Friends,
How are you? First and foremost, I'd like to know what is on your mind. There is a lot to process in our politics and our world right now. You can reach me at newsletter@americatheindivisible.org to share the questions you are wrestling with. I'd love the chance to learn and be in conversation.
On my side, the thing I am wrestling with above all is how to build a supermajority for democracy. Yes, that means a big coalition ranging from left and center-left to center and center-right, and even some of those further right provided they are committed to freedom and equality for all and universal inclusion in our political, economic, and social life. It means strange bedfellows.
You'll find me trying to work through how to do this in every medium:
A podcast conversation with Ezra Klein on my new book.
On MSNBC with Ali Velshi.
My Washington Post columns.
And my new book itself, Justice by Means of Democracy.
On a personal note, this was a big month because I wrapped up eight years of joyful service as the Director of Harvard's Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Ethics. This means I can now turn truly concentrated attention to Partners In Democracy and our work in Massachusetts. We are exploring a ballot initiative for same-day voter registration, a Top 5 election system, and limits on the impact of money in politics. Sign up to learn more!
