Danny Broadway draws on memories of time spent with his great grandfather and images in his grandmother's photo album to inform his vibrant, colorful paintings.
"I have an old soul in a certain way," said Broadway, a self-described quiet person who has always loved to draw and tap into his creative side.
"I like the idea of documenting something that is historic because it automatically makes it more timeless in my opinion. I feel like I have a stronger connection."
Broadway hails from Little Rock but spent many hours commuting back and forth to Memphis as a child. He completed a BFA degree at the University of Memphis in 2001 and has put down roots in the city.
While he has chosen to stay close to home, Broadway has traveled extensively and views himself as inspired by but not boxed into his surroundings.
"I would prefer to say I'm not a Memphis or Little Rock artist, " he said. "I am an artist wherever I am, inspired by that time."
