Greetings!
I hope your semester is going well. The DAIS division has continued to provide quality services to our community through various established programs and new initiatives. The 2023 IISE Annual Conference & Expo will take place from May 20-23, New Orleans. If you are attending the conference, you are cordially invited to join the DAIS Town Hall meeting to learn about the DAIS’ current status, many of its exciting activities, and future plans. We look forward to seeing you there and greatly appreciate your feedback on our current and future initiatives.
In February and March, the DAIS division together with the QCRE division will present two research webinars.
-
The first webinar (on Feb 27) will be given by Dr. Cao (Danica) Xiao, who is currently the VP of AI/ML research at Relativity. This talk will focus on “Machine Learning for Digital Transformation of Clinical Trials and Legal Review”. The digital transformation of healthcare and legal data presents remarkable opportunities for machine learning (and deep learning) technologies to revolutionize the healthcare and legal industries. To ensure research will be useful and thus have real world impact, it is desirable to study the industry expert workflow and identify meaningful tasks that machine learning can help automate or augment. This talk will cover examples of research works and products to show some initial success of machine learning in improving the success and efficiency of patient recruitment in clinical research and privilege and privacy redaction in legal review.
-
The second webinar (on March 2) will be given by Dr. Hoang Pham, Distinguished Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Rutgers University. This talk will focus on “Do Reliability and Machine Learning Models with Time Delays and Model Selection Matter?” With the development of various machine learning models, both model-driven and data-driven approaches in recent years, the task of determining an appropriate model which satisfies certain criteria from a set of candidate models given a set of data has become more challenging for engineers and analysts. This webinar will discuss various model selection criteria and some recent modeling studies of systems such as system degradation and body's immune system with time delays.
Other key activities of the DAIS division for 2022-2023 include:
- Best Track Paper Competition
- Best Student Paper Competition
- Data Analytics Competition
- DAIS Mobile/Web App Competition
- Webinar Series
- Inaugural Data Analytics Education Award
- Professional Achievement Award
- Student board member nomination
- DAIS Tracks and Town Hall Meeting in IISE Conference & Expo
We look forward to seeing you at the 2023 IISE Annual Conference and Expo on the DAIS track and wish you everyone a productive and peaceful year!
Sincerely,
Xiao Liu (University of Arkansas)
IISE DAIS Division President, 2022-2023

2023 IISE Annual Conference: Call for Papers & Important Deadlines!
The IISE Annual Conference & Expo 2023 will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Orleans, LA, on May 20 – 23, 2023. The IISE DAIS Division is sponsoring the DAIS Track at the 2023 IISE Annual Conference & Expo. While not required, we strongly encourage all presenters to submit a paper for publication so discoveries can be permanently documented. This year, two types of papers will be considered: research papers and case study papers.
- Research papers (with a limit of six pages) contain methods and results that are significant and have archival value to the industrial and systems engineering community. They will undergo a double-blind peer review process and accepted papers will be copyrighted and indexed in the Conference Proceedings via ProQuest.
- Case study papers (of two to six pages) describe the application of a method or technology that addresses an important industry-motivated issue. They will be reviewed to ensure that the content focuses on the value and lessons learned for the industrial and systems engineering community. The case study papers should avoid significant marketing material. Accepted manuscripts will be published with access via the IISE website.
Important deadlines:
-
Speaker registration deadline: February 24, 2023 (Applies to all speakers)
-
Notification of decision on paper: March 17, 2023
-
Paper final revision submission deadline: March 31, 2023
-
